A Presidential Divorce Is Looming On ‘Scandal’ [Spoiler]

Shonda Rhimes packed in enough new information on the season 5 premiere of Scandal that it is still being absorbed by fans everywhere. Even Olivia Pope seemed to be in shock when the president stopped stalling and literally handed the first lady divorce papers after losing her invite to a state dinner.

The Inquisitr reported that a presidential divorce seemed imminent, but fans were blown away when it was presented in the season premiere of Scandal. While Olivia Pope was doing what she does best, fixing the problems of others, Fitz went public with the dissolution of his marriage, and his now public relationship with Olivia Pope.

Entertainment Weekly is breaking out their crystal ball and making some serious predictions about the rest of this season of Scandal with a roundtable of prognosticators.

“The main focus of the premiere was the Olitz relationship, as we finally see Fitz divorcing Mellie in favor of Olivia. As the roundtable was (understandably) staunchly Team Jake, the divorce wasn’t totally swoon-worthy. Although things seem to be smooth sailing for Olivia and Fitz at last, we predict that the relationship will not last through the season. Knowing Shonda Rhimes, it’s pretty unthinkable that anyone would make it through a whole season without heaps of drama being thrown his or her way.”

Hollywood Life reports that the whistle was perhaps blown on the relationship of Olivia and Fitz before they were truly ready for prime time.

“‘What other tricks do you have up your sleeve?’ Sally said about Fitz. He had a lot, to be quite honest. Mellie couldn’t go to the party because she had the ‘flu.’ But she was dressed and ready to go. ‘You can’t have a state dinner without the First Lady,’ Mellie said. Well, Fitz just did.”

Olivia having a sleepover at the White House, and wearing Fitz’s T-shirt to bed was yet another clue that the cloak and dagger of the “Olitz” relationship is over, like it or not.

But the voice of gossip, former politician-turned-political-analyst Sally, narrated the episode from the pulpit of her television show, telling the world that the president was pulling the wool over their eyes.
