Did Norman Reedus Just Hint That Daryl Dixon Will Fall In Love On ‘The Walking Dead?’

Norman Reedus fans love his Walking Dead character, Daryl Dixon, for being a lone wolf who is secretly a sweet little puppy dog inside. However, the once-reclusive redneck character might start to get a bit stale if The Walking Dead writers don’t give his character more to do than being awkward around people and bashing zombies’ brains out.

Luckily, Daryl Dixon’s character may soon be saved from becoming boring and predictable. During a recent interview with the Guardian, Norman Reedus dropped a hint that Daryl could soon face a foe far more fearsome than walkers or wolves — he might have to fight his feelings after falling in love.

“Allowing himself to fall in love is something Daryl Dixon wouldn’t have done until after he’s lost everything and the world’s gone to s**t,” Reedus said. “Part of that character’s appeal is that you’re watching this guy reinvent himself as someone who’s finding a sense of self-worth through other people in his life. He’s slowly becoming proud of who he is.”

Interestingly, this comment wasn’t a response to a question about Daryl Dixon’s love life. Norman Reedus had been asked if he’s “happy being held up as an example of a particular type of masculinity.” However, for some reason, Reedus was thinking about Daryl falling in love. This could be a hint that romance is in the cards for Daryl during Season 6 of The Walking Dead.

Also note how Reedus talked about Daryl falling in love as if it was something that already happened. Was he referencing Daryl Dixon’s sweet moments with Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) before her death? Or is it possible that he’s already filmed love scenes with a mystery actress?

It could also be telling that Norman Reedus seems to be more accepting of the idea of his character falling in love. In the past, The Walking Dead star has avoided using the L-word. During a March interview with Entertainment Weekly, he even denied that Daryl has any romantic feelings for a fellow survivor. Many Walking Dead fans want to see Daryl hook up with Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), and they suspect that there might be something going on between the two characters because of the playful way the survivors interact with one another. However, Reedus said that the teasing is just a sign that the survivors are “a very close group.”

In other past interviews, Norman Reedus didn’t seem too keen on the idea of Daryl Dixon finding love. As the Inquisitr previously reported, he once said that he doesn’t want Daryl Dixon to “blow his wad” because he thinks his character is the type of guy who will only give himself one shot at love.

However, Norman Reedus has two good reasons to be rooting for a Daryl Dixon love story right now. These reasons contain spoilers about Season 6 of The Walking Dead, so stop reading now if you don’t want to know about them.

Fans of The Walking Dead think Norman Reedus’ character can’t be killed off because Norman and Daryl are both so beloved. However, Daryl Dixon will soon be joined by two Walking Dead comic book characters who are also extremely popular. These new TV series characters are Alexandrian supply runner Heath (Corey Hawkins) and former Hilltop Colony member Paul Monroe, aka “Jesus” (Tom Payne). According to E! News, Jesus could be getting the gay storyline that some Walking Dead didn’t want for Daryl. Jesus and Heath are both likable tough guys like Daryl, and their characters could be on the show for a pretty long time. Fans of The Walking Dead have seen many major characters get killed off to make room for new faces, so there’s a possibility that Daryl Dixon could be replaced.

There’s a chance that fans could slowly lose interest in Daryl as they shift their attention to the new bad*sses in town, but a shiny new romance just might keep them promising to riot if he gets killed off. This gives Norman Reedus a very good reason to root for Daryl Dixon to find love.

Do you think Norman Reedus’ character will show fans what dating during the zombie apocalypse is like when The Walking Dead returns next month?
