Huntington High School Fight: Bully Who Beat Up Blind Student Arrested For Battery

The Huntington Beach High School bully who was caught on video attacking a blind student is now in trouble with the law.

Video that hit the internet on Wednesday showed a confrontation between the unidentified bully and a partially blind student. The bully attacked the other student, connecting with a punch before another student, Cody Pine, stepped in from off camera and laid out the bully with a punch.

After video of the confrontation went viral this week, police took notice and arrested the bully. NBC Los Angeles reported that the bully is under arrest.

Police did not release much more information about the Huntington Beach High School fight, but noted that the students involved were all under 18.

“School resource officers, detectives and school officials are working to find out exactly what happened,” the Huntington Police Department said.

Police said there was a history of problems between the blind student and his attacker, but did not elaborate on that.

But the bully is not the only one who got into trouble. Cody Pine, the junior student who stepped in and laid out the bully, was reportedly kicked off the school’s football team as a result of his involvement.

The bully’s brother believes that Pine took his defense too far.

“This so-called hero, he comes up and punches him in the back of the head,” he said. “Pretty wrong, if you ask me. He could’ve killed him.”

The internet is rising to his support. On Thursday an online petition began circulating calling on the school to reinstate Cody to the football team, and it quickly topped 10,000 signatures.

The page read as follows.

“Cody stepped in when he saw his friend and fellow classmate who is visually diabled being physically bullied. (Punched multiple times in face/head) Cody comes and steps in, punches the bully one time to get him away, guides his friend to a safe location and talks to the bully about how he was beating up a blind kid and how it was wrong. There is Youtube video of the main part of the confrontation.”

“We believe Cody should be back on his football team and back in school where he belongs. While violence is never the best option what Cody did to defend his friend and classmate was justified. And schools “zero-tolerance” policies out even the person saving disabled friends.”

Police seem to agree. They did not charge Cody Pine and said he was right for stepping in to stop the attack.

“The student who stepped in, his actions were reasonable,” said Officer Jennifer Marlatt of the HBPD.

Cody Pine seems to have plenty of other supporters as well. Many people who signed the petition called him a hero for attacking the Huntington Beach High School bully and protecting the blind student.
