Robert Pattinson Admits Twilight Fame ‘Drove Me Crazy’ [Video]

Robert Pattinson, who starred as Edward Cullen in Twilight, recently confessed that all the fame made him “crazy.” In an interview with British magazine NME, Robert explained that his life is better now that the Twilight fame is fading.

Explaining that he didn’t “go into a supermarket for about six years,” because his Twilight fans would sit “outside [his] house every single day.” Robert confided that all the fame “drove [him] crazy,” reported People. Now that the Twilight craze died down, Pattinson revealed that he can resume normal life — to some extent.

During the years when vampires were all the rage, Pattinson explained he couldn’t even go to the grocery store for fears that employees would “sell [him] out.”

“I just don’t have to think about that stuff anymore,” Robert revealed. “…Now I can go in and chat to the guy who’s working there about his kids, or where he’s going on holiday…”

Vanity Fair reports that while things are quieter, Pattinson still has self-doubts surrounding his fame that stem from being “the most uncomfortable person in the world.” Robert Pattinson admits to still Googling himself to find out what fans are saying.

Robert Pattinson confessed, “I go through periods where I don’t do it at all and feel glorious!” But eventually, the Twilight star revealed, “I’ll fall back into this pit.” Pattinson explained that the comments, from fans or his detractors, “really does affect you.”

During the interview, reports Vanity Fair, Robert revealed that most of his self-doubt and struggles with his fame comes from negative remarks of “…some moron sitting on a comment board.” He continued explaining, “It’s always that person who’s needling away at you, who you either want to destroy, or convince them to love you.”

Robert described that he struggles with the negative comments, and although he realized they are “just demons who live in basements,” he further confessed that he’s often at odds with his own emotions. Pattinson revealed that he has “this weird thing where you end up trying to fight against this faceless blob, where the more you hate it, the bigger it gets, because it’s all in your head.”

Pattinson also revealed that during the height of his Twilight fame, he was “hungover for most of it,” reports People, and recalled, when watching the MTV VMAs, “how bizarre it was that I ever did that. I remember doing those awards and saying the dumbest stuff.”

Robert is no longer dating Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart, and is now engaged to musician FKA twigs, who Pattinson says is “just an amazing, amazing artist,” reports People.

Now that the Twilight craze is over, Robert Pattinson told NME,“I just don’t have to think about that stuff anymore.” Fame seems to have taken an easier turn for the actor. People writes that Pattinson is currently starring in The Lost City of Z, a film produced by Brad Pitt, opposite Sienna Miller and Charlie Hunnam of Sons Of Anarchy fame.
