Kim Zolciak Thankful And Optimistic After Scary Mini-Stroke

Life-threatening emergencies often bring about moments of soul-searching and self-awareness for those who see things through to another day. Kim Zolciak, star of Dancing With the Stars and Real Housewives of Atlanta, knows this all too well after suffering a mini-stroke earlier this week.

According to USA Today, 37-year-old Zolciak experienced the medical emergency after a flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta. Just hours before getting on the plane, Kim earned accolades from DWTS fans and judges after a slightly improved dance performance with dance partner Tony Dovolani. Despite wide speculation that Zolciak and Dovolani would be eliminated from DWTS following their routine, the pair placed well above the show’s exiles for the week, Chaka Kahn and Keo Motsepe.

As previously reported by Inquisitr, Kim Zolciak posted updates for fans and well-wishers on Thursday via Instagram, sharing her reflections on the frightening experience along with a photo of herself in a hospital bed.

“I got home and within minutes suffered a TIA (mini stroke) the left side of my body went completely numb and my speech was gone… I have 100% of my feeling back THANK GOD. Still in the hospital but I just know I’m getting released today!”

She also shared a photo of herself with husband Kroy Biermann. Biermann is a defensive end for the Atlanta Falcons.

Celebrity news outlet Hollywood Life researched the pathology associated with a transient ischemic attack (TIA) by speaking with Beverly Hills-based physician Dr. Bruce Lee. While strokes are generally associated with elderly patients, Dr. Lee explains that TIAs can occur in comparatively younger people, including patients in their 20s. He speculated that Kim Zolciak might have had an underlying health condition that caused her body to produce a blood clot that resulted in the mini-stroke, also noting that Zolciak is now at a higher risk to suffer a more serious stroke later in life.

For her part, Kim Zolciak has not provided any details on the possible cause for the stroke. According to the Mayo Clinic, a number of risk factors influence susceptibility to TIAs, including family history, underlying medical issues, and lifestyle choices.

Prior to her most recent appearance on DWTS, Zolciak publicly chronicled her quest for a Botox treatment to improve her appearance for the show. Although some star watchers speculated that the sometimes-controversial cosmetic enhancement might have contributed to Kim’s medical issues, there is no established correlation between Botox and TIAs.

Kim Zolciak’s future on Dancing With the Stars remains uncertain at the moment but its certain that he has greater priorities at the moment including spending as much time as possible with her husband and six children.
