Robert Pattinson Admits Being A Movie Star ‘Drove Me Crazy’

Twenty-nine-year-old Robert Pattinson rose to fame, alongside Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, when he starred as a vampire in the Twilight movies, but he admits the fame of being a movie star drove him crazy.

“I could not handle being constantly followed by fans,” said Pattinson.

In an interview with NME, Pattinson said he was not able to enjoy any regular activities because of his fame. He said he didn’t go grocery shopping for about six years during that time and people sat outside of his house constantly.

“But now I can go in and chat to the guy who’s working there about his kids, or where he’s going on holiday, and not be thinking: ‘Is he gonna sell me out?’ I just don’t have to think about that stuff anymore.” The Maps To The Stars actor also shared his feelings on award shows in the industry and said, “I was watching the MTV VMAs the other day and thinking how bizarre it was that I ever did that s**t. I remember doing those awards and saying the dumbest stuff. And I was hungover for most of it.”

Pattinson is one of the most written and talked about stars in Hollywood. He admits that sometimes he gets curious and wonders what people are saying about him so he Googles himself, but he tries not to get caught up in the culture of social media.

“I’ve never wanted anyone to hear what I’m saying, because it’s probably stupid,” he admits, adding that he sometimes looks at comments made about him on the internet, which “reinforce my negative opinion of myself.”

Pattinson’s popularity was the success of the Twilight movies along with his real-life romance with Kristen Stewart, one of his co-stars. After the Twilight series was over and he and Stewart split up, Robert’s life became much more low-key.

While Pattinson complains that fame drove him crazy, they also made him very rich. Pattinson is worth approximately $100 million. Each one of the Twilight movies had a base price of $25 million and the last two were worth $40 million a piece. Pattinson currently gets revenue every time a Twilight movie is played on television or sold on a DVD.

Pattinson is now dating singer FKA twigs, and they are engaged to be married.

Pattinson’s next movie is James Dean’s biographical drama Life, which is going to start playing in theaters this week.
