‘Star Wars Battlefront’ Open Beta Open To All, Starts October 8

In just two weeks, Star Wars fans will get to try their hand at DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront. The open beta is now officially dated for October 8 with an ending date on October 12. This beta will be open to everyone willing to download the beta on Origin, a PlayStation 4, or an Xbox One. The test will give the developers a chance to test the game’s online infrastructure according to the official site. It also goes without saying that, during the beta, players may experience outages or interruptions due to the testing nature of the event.

The open beta for Star Wars Battlefront includes two multiplayer competitive modes: Walker Assault on Hoth and Drop Zone on Sullust. The Walker Assault match will be a giant 40-player fight where Rebel players attempt to bring down AT-ATs while Empire players try to keep them on their feet. The Drop Zone mode is a more intimate affair with just eight players battling another eight. The objective appears to be controlling crashing escape pods to overcome an opponent.

The beta will also include one co-op mission, the Survival mission on Tatooine, that players can tackle alone or with friend. The partner can be online or play co-op locally via split screen on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Co-op missions in Star Wars Battlefront will not grant experience toward a player’s multiplayer career experience, as reported by the Inquisitr, but the missions will still grant credit rewards.

Other game modes will be included in the game when Star Wars Battlefront launches in November; however, the beta is limited to these three. When the game releases, players can expect other co-op missions like Battles and Trials while other multiplayer competitive modes include Fighter Squadron, Supremacy, and Blast. During the beta, though, players will be able to access the Walker Assault and Drop Zone multiplayer competitive modes and the Survival co-op mode.

During the open beta, from October 8 to October 12, the companion experience will also be available via the official website. Players can use the application to play the Base Command card game to earn additional in-game credits or they can use the experience to check up on the statistics, progression, and more of their Star Wars Battlefront account. This feature will be accessible via current web browser during the beta but it will be available via the Apple App Store and Google Play once the game officially launches.

Of course, PC players will need to access Origin to download and play the Star Wars Battlefront open beta. The game will appear in the Demo and Betas section of the interface, and the download will be around 11 gigabytes. Pre-loading of the beta will begin on October 7 early in the morning for U.S. users.

PlayStation 4 users will find the game in the PlayStation Network Store, and according to the PlayStation Blog, the download will be about seven gigabytes. Obviously, Xbox One players will find the beta on the official Xbox Live Marketplace where it will also be around a seven gigabyte download.

Progress in the Star Wars Battlefront beta will be limited to level five. For the duration of the beta, that is the level cap. Players can continue playing after hitting the cap, and those players can still unlock items in beta after reaching it. All progress developed during the beta including levels, items, or companion experience progress will not carry over to the game’s official launch.

Star Wars Battlefront launches on November 17 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in North America. European players can expect to pick up the game on November 20. Will you be trying out Star Wars Battlefront during the open beta period?
