Which Korean Actors Feel Awkward Filming Sexy Bed Scenes With Their Co-Stars In K-Dramas And K-Movies?

Over the past decade or so, Korean television and movies have seen substantial growth in popularity outside of its country of origin. Many international fans often cite the passionate acting, innovative direction, and the interesting stories as reasons why they think K-dramas, K-movies, and K-variety shows are more entertaining. As a matter of fact, Korean television actually takes its cues from what is popular in American and European television yet intricately writes a story that isn’t a simple rehash of past plots. As a result, they are now the leaders in Asian televised entertainment, possibly surpassing Japan and anime.

Despite its popularity, actors of K-dramas, K-movies, and K-variety shows are just like any other actor in any other acting industry. Ergo, they have their preferences and insecurities. With that in mind, it was recently revealed which Korean actors are uncomfortable (or at least feel awkward) when it comes to filming bed scenes.

The list was originally compiled on KdramaStars. In it, six actors detail the reasons why they feel uncomfortable or awkward filming bed scenes. Take note this doesn’t mean all of them will not film said scenes; it’s just a case of how comfortable they are when acting in such.

Park Si Yeon – Known for her roles in Coffee House and The Innocent Man, Si Yeon had an interesting scene to do in her role as Cha Gi Young in The Greatest Marriage. Along with co-star Noh Min Woo who played Park Tae Yeon, they shot a bed scene on the second day of filming.

“Even though it was sexy and showed skin, it was too boring and awkward because Noh Min Woo and I had just met. We had to re-film the scene. When we re-shot the scene for the second time, we already knew each other better, and because of this, even when we didn’t show any skin, we were more comfortable and the scene ended up being more risqué than intended.”

The only ones who ever got to see the intense bed scene were those who were actually present at the filming. Apparently, the director during the shot decided to cut it out right after it was completed.

Kim Moo Yeol – The actor, who recently finished up K-drama My Beautiful Bride, had a tough time filming a love scene in the K-movie Muse. In it, he played a professor who is in love with a 17-year-old girl played by Kim Go Eun. At the time, Moo Yeol was recently married, a contributing factor why he found it difficult to do the bed scene. Also, he was uncomfortable with the subject matter, too.

Cha Seung Won – Known for his role in Splendid Politics, Seung Won has a strict “no bed scene” policy for his career because he too is married.

“The fact that I’m married affects my decision as well, but I just feel uncomfortable.”

Lee Sun Kyun – The actor who is known for his role in Miss Korea and his appearance in Love Is A Virus also cites his marriage as a reason why he feels uncomfortable and awkward with bed scenes. Unlike Cha Seung Won however, it seems he’ll still do them.

“I am uncomfortable with bed scenes after getting married. It’s different. It’s a little awkward so I have to try harder to concentrate.”

Lee Dong Wook – The actor known for his role in La Dolce Vita and upcoming Bubble Gum did a bed scene in the former. However, his reason for feeling awkward or uncomfortable with the bed scene had nothing to do with actually filming the scene nor the presence of a significant other. For Dong Wook, such negative feelings came when he watched said scene at home with his parents. Apparently, Dong Wook’s mother could not handle it.

“My mother abruptly called her friend and actually left the house.”

Jung So Min – So Min is in the same boat as Lee Dong Wook pertaining to her bed scene. So Min states her parents would not speak to her after they saw the scene in the 2012 comedy Can We Marry. That was harder for her than actually filming the scene itself.

“Regarding the frank dialogue, and the bed and kiss scenes, I did feel a little awkward. But as we set up to actually shoot them it became fine. However, when I was watching the broadcast at home with my parents, I felt embarrassed. As it went on, they just grew increasingly silent.”

As time goes by, there will be more Korean actors who will join the aforementioned in the list for any valid number or reasons. Yet, there will also be Korean actors who are comfortable enough with themselves to film such scenes. In the end, as long as the actors deliver a solid performance in association with the K-drama, K-movie, or K-variety show they are on, that is all that matters. To be frank, it is very rare a bed scene is actually necessary for such shows. However, they are still done because they promote fan service which in turn increases ratings.
