Red Velvet: K-Pop Group Channel Their Inner ‘Girls’ Generation TaeTiSeo’ Performing ‘Twinkle’ On ‘Today’s Room’ [Video]

When it comes to the newer generation of K-pop groups, Red Velvet is blazing the way. With their hit song, “Dumb Dumb,” (attached below), they have gained the attention of the K-pop community, which in turn helped them win multiple championships on Korean music shows like M! Countdown, Show Champion, and The Show. However, Red Velvet claims they are simply following in the footsteps of their “sunbae unnies” Girls’ Generation, in which they show clear admiration for. This is seen when Red Velvet candidly sang “Lion Heart” while being escorted to their next scheduled appearance.

Now, Red Velvet is showing their love for their “sunbae unnies” yet again. This time, they channeled their inner Girls’ Generation TaeTiSeo to perform their song, “Twinkle.”

The homage to Girls’ Generation happened when Red Velvet made a guest appearance on Play Mnet’s Today’s Room, as reported by Koreaboo. While taking on a karaoke challenge, Red Velvet members Joy, Seulgi, and Wendy took on “Twinkle,” which was originally performed by Girls’ Generation TaeTiSeo. Yeri and Irene also did a karaoke challenge, in which they performed a track from junior K-pop group April with “Dream Candy.”

Needless to say, Joy, Seulgi, and Wendy thoroughly enjoyed singing “Twinkle” as they danced along to the track as if it was a comeback for the Girls’ Generation TaeTiSeo. And for those who may be fans of Girls’ Generation but not be “enough of a Sone,” Girls’ Generation TaeTiSeo (or Girls’ Generation TTS) is a subgroup of Girls’ Generation, consisting of only three members. They are Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun. The song, “Twinkle,” was their debut on an EP back in 2012. Since then, they went on to make another EP, which featured the song “Holler,” which actually won them more awards than their initial song.

And for those wondering if Red Velvet will splinter off into subgroups, too, it is a possibility. In 2NE1, CL and Minzy formed CL&MINZY. Big Bang’s G-Dragon and T.O.P. formed GD&TOP. Sistar’s Bora and Hyolyn formed SISTAR19. Ergo, it is not a far-fetched idea if Red Velvet may splinter off subgroups, too. At this moment, however, it is highly unlikely, given the fact they are still a rookie K-pop group, only making their debut back in 2014.

For those who thoroughly enjoy listening to Red Velvet, they have official social media pages on both Facebook and Instagram. Their first album, The Red, is available for purchase on iTunes.
