Angelina Jolie Syrian Orphan Adoption Rumor: Brad Pitt Allegedly Forced Angelina To Make Tough Choice

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are adopting a Syrian orphan, if recent reports are to be believed. However, there’s a good reason to question the current rumors about the Jolie-Pitts expanding their big brood of six kids — previous reports about the couple adopting a Syrian orphan have proved to be untrue.

Radar Online claims that Angelina Jolie was forced to choose one Syrian orphan to adopt after falling in love with three children during a solo trip to the war-stricken country. An insider told Radar that the children were all brothers, and they had lost their home and the rest of their family during a raid. Their mother was killed by a bomb, and Syrian soldiers took their father captive.

“Angelina was heartbroken to learn the three of them had seen their father taken away by Syrian soldiers, and their home was also bombed.”

The source claimed that Angelina Jolie wanted to adopt the trio of Syrian orphans, but Brad Pitt wouldn’t allow her to take in all three of the brothers. He reportedly told Angelina that “going from six children to nine was just way too much.” The parents currently have three adopted children and three biological children: Cambodian-born Maddox (age 14), Vietnamese-born Pax (age 11), Ethiopian-born Zahara (age 10), biological daughter Shiloh (age 9), and biological twins Knox and Vivienne (age 7).

Brad and Angelina allegedly argued about the Syrian orphans and reached a compromise — Angelina could adopt just one of the children. Radar‘s source claims that the child is expected to arrive in the States in four or five months.

Angelina Jolie is the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees, so she’s witnessed firsthand the pain and suffering of Syrian refugees and orphaned Syrian children. This is probably why rumors about the actress adopting a Syrian orphan have been so persistent. And with the Syrian refugee crisis continuing to make headlines, now was the perfect time for Radar Online to resurrect the rumor that’s been circulating for years.

One of the earliest incarnations of the Syrian orphan rumor was in 2009, and, just like the recent rumor, it included a bit about Brad Pitt being against taking in another child. OK! Magazine claimed that Angelina Jolie wanted to “complete her rainbow family,” but Brad had decided that half a dozen kids was enough.

“He has made it clear that six children are more than he can handle,” the magazine wrote.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, the Syrian orphan rumors resurfaced in 2013, and a rep for Brad Pitt finally denied the persistent reports when they made headlines again earlier this year. For some reason, the rumor mill just loves recycling the Syrian orphan story. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt haven’t said that they’re against the idea of adopting an orphan from the country, but it would be very difficult for the couple to do so. The website for the U.S. Embassy in Damascus explains that “Syria, as a Shari’ah law country, does not recognize or provide for adoptions of Muslim children.”

“Several attempts by U.S. prospective adoptive parents have failed,” the website notes.

So while there’s no doubt that Angelina Jolie is concerned about the safety and wellbeing of Syrian orphans, she probably won’t waste her time using her celebrity status to get just one child out of the country. Instead, she’ll likely continue using her position with the U.N. to help as many children as possible.
