Watch United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, Colbert Show Interview: ‘I’m Not Running For President’ [Video]

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night. The Inquisitr has previously reported on Senator Warren’s grandson Atticus, who shares his name with the father of To Kill A Mockingbird protagonist Scout, and the seeming sullying of the name by Australian Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.-owned United States-based HarperCollins with the release of Go Set A Watchman.

The U.S. senator was greeted with wild applause by the Colbert audience and introduced as the “sheriff of Wall Street.”

Senator Warren started off the interview by complementing Stephen Colbert with how nice his set was. Colbert replied that it was all paid for with “Wall Street” money.

“You know, why am I not surprised?” was the U.S. senator’s response, drawing laughs from the audience.

Colbert then points out that Senator Warren had come a “long way baby.” Senator Warren noted that she had come from Massachusetts to New York, which really isn’t that far.

Colbert discussed how Senator Warren is one of the few “household” names in politics in the United States, yet she had no plans of running for president. Perhaps in disbelief, Colbert asked if Senator Warren “was sure” she is not going to run for president of the United States.

“Have you checked the newspapers yet, because a lot of people are jumping in and you might have done it in your sleep,” Colbert quipped.

“I’m sure I’m not,” Senator Warren replied.

Comically, Colbert asked Senator Warren if she thinks she would be a “terrible” president, seemingly wondering if that was the reason she isn’t running.

Senator Warren then described how she is battling “everyday” in a “rigged” game for the future of the United States. Colbert then asked what Senator Warren means by “rigged.”

Senator Warren discussed what a great country the United States is, but how the federal government seems to run well for millionaires, corporations and those who can afford “armies” of lawyers and lobbyists, but for the rest of the people in the United States, it’s “just not working.” The audience reacted with wild hoots and applause.

“Well, you don’t sound like you’re running for president, I’ll tell you that,” Colbert said with a straight face, spurring laughter from both Senator Warren and the audience.

Colbert asked Senator Warren how to fix the system. Senator Warren discussed that government in the United States needs to be changed to work in the interests of the “middle class.” She compared change that is needed in the United States to changes that were implemented by Franklin D. Roosevelt during the depths of the great depression, and then contrasted them to the changes made during the early eighties when Ronald Reagan took office and his “trickle-down” economics.
