Ed Sheeran Single Drops Friday, ‘Last Song Til Album 3’
Ed Sheeran fans have reasons to be happy and sad at the musician’s latest announcement Wednesday.
As for the happy, Sheeran will be dropping a new single this Friday, according to SugarScape. The song, a collaboration with tour partner Rudimental, is “Lay It All On Me.” Ed and his fans have heard the song at least once as a YouTube video from the Multiply tour in Detroit captured Rudimental performing the video alone nearly a year ago.
From the video above, the new single should be an up-tempo song that will have fans dancing to another chart-topping tune.
Now, for the bad news. According to the same report, Sheeran has said that this will be the last new single his fans will hear from him for the foreseeable future. In a follow-up tweet to announce his new single, Ed broke the bad news to his fans.
Sheeran has been busy the past year on his world tour, and taking a break away from the business is understandable. It’s also the second time he’s done so as Ed took more than a two-year breather in between his first album and his second recording.
His CD has been extremely popular and produced several hits. The song “Sing” was the only Ed Sheeran single from the CD that did not break through the top 10 on the U.S. charts. His songs “Thinking Out Loud,” “Don’t,” and “Photograph” all charted in a top 10 spot.
While fans won’t be seeing Sheeran dropping any new songs after “Lay It All On Me” in the immediate future, that won’t mean fans won’t be able to see Ed during the hiatus. At a concert series Sheeran performed in Wembley Stadium earlier this year, Ed announced that his concert was being filmed for a full-length feature, SugarScape reported recently.
Earlier this month, Sheeran finally announced the release date of that film in an Instagram post. According to the social medium message, Ed Sheeran: Jumpers for Goalposts will hit theaters in select cinemas worldwide October 22 – 25.

The post also included a YouTube video of the trailer for the new feature film. Ed does back-stage interviews in the trailer to promote his concert full-length video.
