‘Star Wars’ Actor Anthony Daniels Says Luke Skywalker Hasn’t Aged Well

Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels is once again making waves, speaking about his co-stars in a new interview and singling out Mark Hamill as someone who hasn’t aged well.

Daniels spoke with the Daily Mirror recently as part of the lead-up to the newest Star Wars film, The Force Awakens. Like many of his co-stars, Daniels returns to his iconic role for the newest film, yet as the interview notes, only he and R2-D2 actor Kenny Baker have appeared in all six previous Star Wars installments.

While Daniels was technically banned from talking about The Force Awakens in the interview, he did mention that the film’s first read-through was a far more positive experience than he expected.

“I thought the first read-through would be a nightmare, but it was gorgeous. It was as though we had just walked off the set of Episode VI (1983’s Return of the Jedi) and into Episode VII.”

Speaking about his fellow Star Wars cast members, Daniels singled out Harrison Ford as someone who has done well since the iconic films were first released. When it comes to his other co-stars from the original trilogy, however, Daniels was a bit more straightforward, as the Week noted.

“Harrison was just brilliant, he just made me smile — I’m smiling at the memory. He’s 72 but still got the charm, the charisma. He’s had some bad times — first his ankle and then the plane. But he’s back on good form.

“What is funny is C-3PO looks the same — Harrison, Carrie and Mark… not so much… Poor Mark. He was a young lovely looking lad when he was first Luke Skywalker and now… well…”

Nonetheless, the actor did assert that he is extremely fond of Carrie Fisher, and that a great camaraderie exists between the actors who are returning from the original Star Wars trilogy. The good vibes, however, don’t extend to Baker, with whom Daniels has had a longstanding feud. Though the verbal back-and-forth between the pair has gone on for some time, Daniels says that he generally doesn’t comment. He also alleged, however, that Baker has a smaller role in the newest Star Wars than some would expect.

“He’s not actually on the set. I haven’t seen him for years. His name is on the credits as a sort of… I don’t know, a good luck charm, a courtesy. He’s a talisman.”

Baker’s representatives, meanwhile, assert that he is very much involved in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, despite Anthony Daniels’ claim to the contrary.
