Piers Morgan Threatens To Smack Robert De Niro Around ‘His Smug Little Chops’

Robert De Niro may have played some of the meanest tough guys to have ever disgraced the silver screen, but that don’t scare foppish newsman Piers Morgan none; he’s threatened to smack the talented thespian around his “smug little chops” if De Niro ever dares to “disrespect” him the same way he did Radio Times reporter Emma Brockes.

Robert De Niro was trending on Twitter yesterday. Not because he killed a man, but because he walked out on a fairly uninteresting interview he deemed was going nowhere fast.

Of course, in the world of celebrity journalism, this is a definite no-go, and De Niro’s name has been blackened in the press and dragged through the mud just because he had the brass neck cheek to deem certain questions as having a “negative inference.”

Seemingly not being able to understand the concept of freewill, and obviously outraged at being dissed by an A-lister, the reporter in question complained that De Niro was condescending, after he mysteriously failed to answer a question about acting on autopilot.

Showbiz hacks are a strange breed. A lot of them like to think they’re part of the same exclusive club as the celebrities, whose every action and statement they feed off like parasitic flies. So, obviously, it cuts deep when they’re dismissed by a Hollywood icon as no more than a sycophantic flunky whose questioning has gotten a bit out of hand.

However, you snub one showbiz newshound and you snub them all, as Robert De Niro would realize if he could be bothered to read the hatchet job that the chairman of the celebrity fan club, Piers Morgan, has recently written about him in the Daily Mail.

After spending a lifetime in relentless pursuit of the rich and famous, just so he can finally rub shoulders with them and write about it in “knowing” columns, Piers was personally outraged by De Niro’s conduct and has called for journalists everywhere to blacklist this “pathetic prima donna” and “never interview him again.”

Piers laments like a put upon intern – “More and more stars have taken to treating journalists like dirt” – and Morgan, for one, sure isn’t going to take it anymore, at least not lying down.

“They’re all encouraged to behave like this by a coterie of often quite ghastly power-crazed publicists, who see the press as an enemy to be used, abused and thrown to the wolves whenever it suits them.

“Well, it’s time the world’s media fought back. I’d honestly put Robert De Niro out of his self-enforced misery. He’s 72, hasn’t made a good movie this Millennium, and clearly hates every second of the process of promotion.

“It’s as if he prides himself on being a total douchebag.

“If I’d been Emma, I’d have slapped him round his smug little chops.

Phone-hacking, of course, may be something to do with celebrities not viewing journalists in a positive light anymore, and as such it would be interesting to see just how the world’s media, headed by Piers of course, intends to fight back against the evil tyranny of celebrities who refuse to dance to their tune every time they pipe up.
