The Next Charlie Hunnam? Will ‘The Bastard Executioner’ Star Lee Jones Find The Same Fame As The ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Star?

As Kurt Sutter works his magic yet again with his current hit series, The Bastard Executioner, many are starting to wonder if Lee Jones might become the next Charlie Hunnam. Although The Bastard Executioner and Sons of Anarchy are vastly different from each other, it is easy to see how Jones might be set to become a star as the new series continues to do well in ratings.

The Bastard Executioner centers on the story of Jones’ Wilkin Brattle, a warrior knight living in the medieval times who has a rather violent past from his time in the army. Although Brattle wants to leave his former life of violence behind — which is a very similar storyline with Charlie Hunnam’s Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy — he is quickly persuaded to pick up his sword and become the executioner.

In a trailer for the next episode, released by E! Online, Jones is shown in a scene with his pregnant wife, Petra, played by Elen Rhys. After a quick chat with his wife, Jones is seen having a discussion with Annora of the Alders, who is played by Sons of Anarchy alum Katey Sagal. Sutter is also present in the clip in his role as The Dark Mute.

As the video shows, The Bastard Executioner is set in a vastly different time and world than Sons of Anarchy. However, with both lead characters facing similar struggles in a violent world, it is easy to see the parallels between the Brattle and Teller. With that in mind, has Jones set himself up for success?

While it is still to be determined whether or not Jones makes it big in his lead role in The Bastard Executioner, it certainly helps to have the looks to pull off the part, which Jones seems to be in no shortage of. That being said, Jones’ success is largely tied in with how the show performs as a whole. As long as the series continues to do well, Jones is clearly on his way to becoming just as big a star as Hunnam.

Aside from the aforementioned cast, The Bastard Executioner also features Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Darren Evans, Sam Spruell, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Timothy V. Murphy (Sons of Anarchy), Kyle Ress, and Brian F. O’Byrne. Additionally, both Matthew Rhys (The Americans) and Ed Sheeran are set to make guest star appearances at some point in the season.

For his part, Hunnam has found himself extremely busy filming movies since Sons of Anarchy wrapped. You can catch Charlie in Crimson Peak this October and Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur in the summer of 2016. Charlie Hunnam is currently in Belfast filming The Lost City of Z with Twilight’s Robert Pattinson.

New episodes of The Bastard Executioner air Tuesday nights on FX.
