Medical Suspensions For ‘Bellator MMA & Glory: Dynamite 1’ Released — Liam McGeary And Tito Ortiz May Be Out For Six Months

On Saturday, September 19, 2015, history was made in combat sports when Bellator MMA and Glory teamed up to present the first hybrid event of its kind, Bellator MMA & Glory: Dynamite 1. Featuring both mixed martial arts and kickboxing, the event held in the SAP Center in San Jose, California was toted among sports media as equal parts sideshow, equal parts awesome.

Despite the media’s patronizing, there were major highlights from the event that should be noted. First, this was Keri Anne Taylor-Melendez’s first appearance at a MMA event, though she was partook in Glory’s kickboxing half. Second, this was Phil Davis’ first fight under the Bellator MMA promotion, one in which he went above and beyond expectations.

Though Bellator MMA & Glory: Dynamite 1 proved to be worthwhile for the aforementioned fighters, some didn’t fair so well, especially those who really got hurt. Ergo, both Bellator MMA and Glory have recently released the medical suspensions list for said event. Apparently, both main event fighters, Liam McGreary and Tito Ortiz, can be suspended for six months.

The list of MMA fighters medically suspended by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) was first reported by MMA Junkie. Released on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, it has some notable fighters receiving a suspension up to six months including Liam McGeary, Tito Ortiz, Muhammed Lawal, Emanuel Newton, and Josh Thomson. The tantamount time may have to do with either punishment absorbed in association with age. Ortiz for example is in his forties.

However, it should be noted not everyone on the list are suspended due to a damage sustained resulting in a loss. According to Sherdog, some of the fighters were given medical suspensions simply because of the length they fought. For example, Phil Davis was given a mandatory medical suspension of seven days. This would make sense for “Mr. Wonderful” because he fought a total of two times that night when he first fought Emanuel Newton followed by Francis Carmont (who replaced Muhammed Lawal).

The complete list of fighters medically suspended is listed below. Take note the list seems long given the fact Bellator MMA & Glory: Dynamite 1 was a hybrid event featuring both MMA fighters and kickboxers. Ergo, the card was a lot bigger than most.
