Game Of Thrones’ Record-Breaking Emmy Awards Win Confirms Show’s Unrivalled Success


HBO’s Game of Thrones won 12 prizes at the 67th Emmy Awards ceremony, including Best Drama Series for the first time. The show was nominated in 24 categories, and took home more prizes than any other series in one year.

Game of Thrones, which has been renewed for another season, has been the most pirated show ever, breaking records when the sixth episode of Season 5 was was downloaded by 3.5 million individuals in a 24-hour period.

And since good news come in pair, Variety revealed today that Maisie Williams, the British actress who plays Arya Stark, will star in the cinema adaptation of the 2009 best-selling book The Forest of Hands and Teeth.

The film, directed by Kate Maberly, is based on Carrie Ryan’s New York Times best-seller, a science fiction story in which a deadly virus has destroyed most of the human race.

Williams, 18, will appear on British popular show Doctor Who in October, as well as in a handful of films, includingThe Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, alongside Jessica Biel, to be released in 2016.

Williams is a keen social media user, regularly sharing moments of her life with her 1.5 million followers, such as this photo taken at this year’s Emmy Awards ceremony.

Williams’ performance in Game of Thrones was recognized in June when she won a Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor.

Game of Thrones is the first show to win in the Outstanding Drama Series category since J.J. Abrams’ Lost in 2005. The 12 categories the show won this year included Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series, Outstanding Costumes For A Period | Fantasy Series, Limited Series Or Movie, and Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series. Peter Dinklage won the Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series, remaining the most rewarded member of the cast.

Filming for Season 6 of the popular show started in July, and fans will have to wait patiently to find out the fate of their favourite characters. Recently attending the Comic-Con 2015, the actors kept quiet about what the new season has in store for them. Fans have been speculating on Jon Snow’s fate (played by Kit Harington) since the season finale aired in June.
