Episode 5 of Fear The Walking Dead is called “Cobalt” likely in a nod to the temporary name given to the zombie series as it was being developed. The synopsis according to its IMDb page is as follows.

“The National Guard’s plan for the neighborhood is revealed; Travis and Madison make a difficult decision.”

This episode will be directed by Kari Skogland and written by David Wiener, Dave Erickson (Fear’s showrunner) and Robert Kirkman (Fear’s creator).

So far, two teaser videos have been released for Episode 5 of Fear The Walking Dead. Let’s have a look at them.

The first video shows Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades) talking. It appears Daniel has a plan to get Griselda (Patricia Reyes Spíndola) and Nick (Frank Dillane) back from the National Guard. Meanwhile, Ofelia (Mercedes Mason) is busy being angry at the army and Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) is trying to be strong with his mother also absent.

“What kind of man puts his wife an children in the hands of strangers?” says a character who appears to be Colman Domingo (who plays Strand). It is unclear who he is talking to but could he be trying to manipulate that person into believing that the man he is talking about doesn’t care about his family. Could he possibly mean Thompson, the man who hid in his bathroom in Episode 4 and then disappeared — either over the fence, or retrieved by the National Guard?

Liza Ortiz (Elizabeth Rodriguez) is getting some hands on experience with the infected as she works alongside Dr. Bethany Exner (Sandrine Holt) with a victim who has obvious bite marks.

Finally, there is a lot of visuals of the National Guard before Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) says to Chris “Something’s wrong.”

The second video is an expansion on Ofelia being mad at the National Guard. After she threw a bottle at the fence and demanded to know where her mother was in the first clip, Andrew Adams (Shawn Hatosy) now convinces the rest of the Guard that he can talk her down. There appears to be a very obvious divide between the military between those who are quite happy to stick to the rules at the expense of human compassion and those that are ready to walk because they just can’t toe the line. This video culminates with one such soldier walking off the job as a result of this conflict.
