As late as early in the fourth quarter of their January 18 NFC title game, the Packers likely felt confident that they would be headed to the Super Bowl. They led 16-0 at the half and were still up 19-7 with under 11 minutes to play in the game.
But a botched onside kick reception and several big plays by Seattle allowed the Seahawks to roll up 15 fourth-quarter points while Green Bay managed just a pair of field goals, sending the game into overtime where Seattle then won it.
But the Seahawks then suffered a devastating loss as they sought their second straight Super Bowl victory, blowing a chance for a game-winning touchdown when quarterback Russell Wilson threw a goal-line interception to New England Patriots backup cornerback Malcolm Butler with just seconds remaining on the clock and the Patriots ahead by four points.
Seattle was not able to turn their fortunes around in their 2015 opener, falling to the St. Louis Rams 34-31 in Week One. And while it seems early in the season for any game to be called a “must win,” the cold, hard fact is that of 107 teams starting a season 0-2 since the 2002 season, only 10 have even made the playoffs.
The Packers opened their new season on a high note, blowing past traditional rivals the Chicago Bears 31-23 in Chicago one week ago.
