Selena Gomez fans thought they were going to be the first to see the music video for the new single “Same Old Love” from her upcoming album Revival. Instead, they got to see Gomez perform the song live.
At the Revival event Wednesday night, 800 Selena Gomez fans packed the Palace Theater in Los Angeles. The event began with a sneak preview of the music video for the new song.
However, just as Gomez was about to take the mic in the video, it abruptly ended. The stage curtain lifted and Gomez herself came out and finished the song.
Another big surprise was in store for Selena Gomez fans that night. Camera crews were there filming the audience during her performance. It was later revealed that they will be featured in the finished video once it is officially released.
That night, Gomez also performed “Good For You” and a bit of “Revival,” the title track of her new album.
The lyrics of “Revival” and the name of the album itself hints at something personal for Gomez. “The chains around me are finally breaking” and “It’s my time to butterfly… this is my revival,” speaks of Gomez’s past struggles.
Additionally, as reported by the Inquisitr, the song “Same Old Love” may refer to her past relationship with pop contemporary Justin Bieber.
In an E! Online article, Gomez admitted how intimate the album is for her.
“At that time, a lot of the world had their own opinions about what I was going through and it was very frustrating because I’d be at home with my friends and I’d be like, ‘I just wish I could tell them everything and how I feel.'”
Even the sexy, simple black-and-white cover of the new Revival album hints at the personal life of Gomez. In the picture, she is posed nearly naked, suggesting maybe she is somehow revealing part of herself in the album.

According to Billboard, the Revival album cover picture started a social media frenzy as it generated 11 million likes and comments as well as adding 505,000 followers to Selena Gomez’s Instagram account.
However, the picture did generate some criticism, of which Gomez responded, “It looks like a Linda Ronstadt photo. It’s a ’70s photo. I’m wearing high-waisted shorts that are obviously cut off.”
Yet, Gomez seems to have moved on from her personal issues. She appeared excited as well as grateful when she spoke to the screaming fans Wednesday night.
“This is a new chapter for me. I’m sure most of you know that. You guys have been the most consistent thing in my life and my career. This is all for you.”

After the event, there was a private cocktail reception where Gomez made sure she met with every fan there and took selfies.
