The 20-year-old Kizer, normally the team’s field-goal holder, was pressed into service after starter Malik Zaire left the game with a gruesome broken ankle injury — and fired a 39-yard pass for a touchdown to Will Fuller with just 12 seconds left on the clock.
But Notre Dame, ranked Number Eight in the nation, may need to rely in its defense against the high-flying offense of 14th-ranked Georgia Tech — an offense which has put 134 points in the board in its first two games. Granted, those games came against Alcorn State, a team that plays in the Division I Championship, and Tulane who remain one of only two winless teams in the 12-team American Athletic Conference.
