Ryan Gosling Eats Cereal In Moving Tribute To Hilarious Vine Creator

Ryan Gosling is not just one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. He’s also a ridiculously cool guy.

When he heard that Scottish filmmaker Ryan McHenry, maker of the popular six-second Vine videos, “Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal,” had died after a long fight with cancer, he paid tribute in the most appropriate of ways.

Both the “Cereal” videos and the tribute have enjoyed something of a resurgence this week on social media after posting in May, 2015.

Many of you may not be aware of the tribute, in fact, as it’s often buried in the “related posts” section of Facebook.

The one that has received the most shares is the following compilation, which has now been viewed more than 3.8 million times on YouTube. That doesn’t factor in how many times each six-second Vine video was shared on its original platform individually.

The videos take actual performances from Ryan Gosling being dramatic and inserts a slowly approaching spoonful of cereal to maximum comedic effect. Have a look.

When word got around that McHenry had passed away, here was the touching response from the actor, which begins at the 1:10 mark of the video.

Gosling also tweeted out, “My heart goes out to all of Ryan McHenry’s family and friends. Feel very lucky to have been a part of his life in some small way.”

One of McHenry’s friends called Gosling’s response the most fitting sendoff any of his friends or family could have hoped for. It was something he had always talked about.

McHenry died of bone cancer after a year-long fight against the disease. The filmmaker’s friends and family started a page in his honor to continue that fight and to date, it has raised more than £10,600 (or approximately $16,600).

As for Ryan Gosling, fans can check him out next in four films for 2016: La La Land, The Nice Guys, The Big Short, and an untitled project with director Terrence Malick.

He is also slated for a starring role in an untitled Blade Runner project, which does not currently have a release date.

It’s expected that the film will be a sequel to the original Blade Runner since Harrison Ford is said to be reprising his role as Rick Deckard in the film.
