Virgina Live TV Shooting Survivor Finally Opens Up About The Terrifying Event

The live TV shooting that happened in Roanoke, Virginia, left many shaken up and nearly three weeks later, the only survivor is opening up about what exactly happened.

According to NBC News, Vicki Gardner, the Virginia chamber of commerce official who was being interviewed at the time of the shooting, is finally opening up and talking about not only what happened during the TV shooting that took place on August 26, 2015, but also about how she believed that the gunman would end her life.

During the live TV shooting, the gunman reportedly ambushed reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward. At the time, it seemed as if Parker and Ward were the intended targets of the attack, though Gardner also suffered a gunshot wound in the back.

Gardner has now begun opening up about the incident, and she told Fox News that she feared the gunman would kill her after he shot and killed Parker and Ward.

“I was laying down. I realized it was quiet and everybody was down, and I didn’t know where he was… I felt as though the next shot — I knew the next shot, he was just going to shoot me in the head, because that was what he was doing.”

According to ABC News, the gunman, who has been identified as Vester Flanagan, also known as Bryce Williams, turned to Gardner after shooting and killing Parker and Ward on live TV and shot her in the back. He reportedly shot several rounds, but only one bullet hit her.

“I was waiting for him to shoot me in the head. When he shot me in the back, I said, ‘I’m going to be paralyzed,’ and then I waited… It goes real quick. Your world goes in front of you, and it did, real fast, and I said, ‘I’m ready.’ “

Vester Flanagan left at that point, but according to a previous report by the Inquisitr, it was later discovered that he had turned the gun on himself, ending his own life.

The live TV shooting left many heartbroken and asking questions. Gardner told reporters that she was left questioning why Flanagan killed Parker and Ward, but left her alive. “My heart just goes out to Alison and Adam. They’re so young. Why save me and take them?” Gardner told Fox News‘ Greta Van Susteren. “Obviously there’s a purpose, and by golly, I will fulfill it.”
