‘Charlie’s Angels’: Will Elizabeth Banks Direct The Reboot?

It sounds like Elizabeth Banks is close to closing a deal to direct the Charlie’s Angels reboot. According to E! Online, Banks and her husband, Mac Handelman, are being sought to head up the production on the Charlie’s Angels reboot.

The Hollywood Reporter, who first broke the story, said that the production behind the Charlie’s Angels reboot is looking out for a writer who can reimagine the popular film franchise, which was modeled after the 70s television hit.

The franchise was started in 2000 with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu in the roles of the famous angels, which were portrayed by the late Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, and Kate Jackson in the 1976 television series.

As of right now, it’s unknown which fresh-faced actresses will play the angels, but many have opinions on who should play the angels. Some popular picks are Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Jennifer Lawrence.

While we don’t know who’s going to embody the roles, it looks likely that Banks will direct. In the past, she has directed Pitch Perfect 2, which was centered on powerful women who used their strong vocals. We can see her adopting the same comedic spirit and swapping musical runs for combat skills.

As a director, Banks is an emerging talent with a fresh perspective. In an interview with Variety, Banks spoke about her first directing gig back in June.

“Specifically for the last 15 years, I think I’ve been in this box that just said, ‘Cute blond actress, kind of funny, small boobs.'”

As for the limitations that people put on her, the actress turned director said, “As for people’s low expectations, those I like. Because those allow an opportunity to surprise people… like ‘Pitch Perfect 2’s’ $69 million did. Thank you all for those who bought tickets!”
