‘The Last of Us 2’: No, You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Us

For the nth time this year, the sequel to The Last of Us is teased by developer Naughty Dog to be in the works.

The Last of Us 2 is one of the most sought-after follow-ups in console gaming. The Last of Us was released for PlayStation 3 in 2013 and was remastered for PlayStation 4 in 2014. The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog knows indeed how to be naughty and continues to spoil and tease its fans with The Last of Us 2 leaks and tips.

Just recently, another tip pointing to The Last of Us 2 slipped onto our radar during a live streaming of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection by community strategist Eric Monacelli, writer Josh Scherr, and lead animator Eric Baldwin. According to IGN, Scherr starts talking about Monacelli’s work in the Uncharted series when he slips up with what we think a reminder from Naughty Dog that The Last of Us 2 is in the works.

“All the facial animation in the Uncharted series was led up by Eric, here…and [on] the first The Last of Us. Uh, did I say the first The Last of Us?”

Looking at the excerpt from the live stream video below, it shows how Scherr became flustered, repeating himself, and tripping over his words several times. This might seem funny for The Last of Us and Uncharted fans watching the live stream, but we all know that this means two things: Scherr is doing this on purpose, of course, and, yes, The Last of Us 2 might actually be coming to the console soon.

Last June, another IGN report writes about another possible tip on the The Last of Us sequel. During a recent Q&A panel with Uncharted 4 voice actor North Nolan, he was asked if there was another project with Naughty Dog that he might be working on aside from his Uncharted 4 character.

He replied, “For now, last one; I know they’re doing a Last of Us 2 but my character in Last of Us kind of had an untimely demise.”

Who wouldn’t believe North Nolan’s words? He was genuinely answering a totally unrelated question, and he is very well connected to the franchise, so it’s just enough to give him credibility. However, Nolan’s words quite contradict another The Last of Us voice actor’s statement on a recent Indy PopCon.

According to Eurogamer, The Last of Us voice actor Troy Baker appeared at a panel session in this year’s Indy PopCon and he drops that he has no idea if Naughty Dog is planning to work with him for a The Last of Us sequel.

I don’t know if we’re gonna do another one or not. If we do, then I trust Neil [Druckman, creative director] and Bruce [Straley, game director] and everyone at Naughty Dog to tell a story that needs to be told.”

So what is it really, Naughty Dog? Why are you keeping The Last of Us fans in the dark? Stay tuned for more updates regarding The Last of Us 2.
