Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Tour Cameo: Julia Roberts Divulges The Details

Last month, Taylor Swift was doing a show in Santa Clara, California, as part of her “1989 World Tour” when she hosted a surprise cameo from the original pretty woman — Julia Roberts.

Roberts talked about the incident in an exclusive interview with Extra on Monday (September 14), and she told the magazine that the plan to join Taylor on stage was completely spur of the moment.

Julia was taking her children to the Swift concert and had secured backstage passes, she said, when she ran into Taylor.

Julia’s kids “had never been to a concert before and they were big fans and [Swift] said, ‘Would you mind coming on stage during the song and dancing?’ and I said to my children, ‘What do you think?’ ‘Oh, Mom you have to do it!’ and my youngest son said, ‘Only do it if you want to, Mommy.’ it was so sweet!”

Next thing everyone knew, Roberts had joined Joan Baez onstage in dancing (quite awkwardly) to a rendition of the Taylor Swift original “Style.”

Roberts recalled how she had definitely not left the house for the Swift concert that night dressed for a public appearance.

“Oh my God, I would have washed my hair if it had been planned. I was wearing a ponytail, leggings, and tennis shoes.”

Roberts also admitted that her experience on stage with Swift had been extremely nerve-wracking.

“It was one of those crazy out-of-body moments. I can’t tell you anything that happened from the moment I came on stage.”

Taylor has been making a big effort to bring as many high-profile guest stars onto stage with her during her current tour because, as Swift proclaimed to Page Six, she is “obsessed with” getting the tour to the level where it outshines rival singer Katy Perry’s over-the-top public performances.

“She wants seven number ones. Katy tied Michael [Jackson]’s record for having five number ones from a single album, and Taylor wants to beat Katy. She wants to be the greatest,” reported a press source.

“She’s so happy with the success of this album,” said an associate of Swift. “Talk of number one singles is for the label to deal with. She’s not even a part of those conversations. She’s concerned with her tour and putting on a show.”

During the Swift tour, her shows have featured huge stars, including, but by no means limited to, Mary J. Blige, Kobe Bryant, Wiz Khalifa, Selena Gomez, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Ellen DeGeneres, Nick Jonas, and now Roberts. Who else would you like to see come to the stage alongside Swift?
