Disney’s Live Action ‘Jungle Book’ Drops Trailer [Video]

This is certainly not the Jungle Book that you grew up with. Gone is the Disney campy feel of other adaptations. Director Jon Favreau’s take, if going from the trailer that was released today, has a more adult feel.

What looks to be an epic journey of huge proportions, the trailer heavily features Mowgli running through the jungle, nearly escaping great chaos. The highlight of the Jungle Book trailer solely relies on Scarlett Johansson’s voice. These days, voice overs are incredibly popular, so it’s not a surprise that the trailer features the sinister voice of Johansson. The actress plays Kaa, the main villain of the story. The choice to reveal the image of Kaa at the very end of the trailer was a smart decision and, if anything, adds to the tone of the overall trailer.

Even if this movie isn’t quite your thing, the amazing imagery is undeniable and breathtaking. The Jungle Book trailer truly showcases that this will be a completely different journey that we’re used to seeing in prior adaptations. The technology alone has improved tenfold, as most of what we see in the trailer was created by CG imaging.

A first trailer is made to get audiences excited about what’s to come, and that definitely upped the curiosity factor. Not only are we looking forward to the second trailer, but we’re interested to see more of Johansson’s Kaa in action. Johansson isn’t the only impressive actor voicing a character. The cast is tremendous, with Bill Murray as Baloo, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Christopher Walken as King Louie, and Lupita Nyong’o as Raksha.

Since the trailer hit, Jon Favreau has been using Twitter to answer questions from fans, which is a smart way to market a film that won’t drop into theaters until 2017. Favreau didn’t give too much away, but the breadcrumbs that he offers up are impressive.
