Emma Watson Looks For Love During Pinochet’s Coup In New Trailer For ‘Colonia’

Emma Watson has long talked about her fears of being typecast thanks to her memorable role in the Harry Potter series. The British actress is certainly showing off a different kind of role in the new trailer for her upcoming film called Colonia. Considering the character that Emma Watson is playing, it’s going to be pretty hard to typecast her after this film.

In Colonia, she plays a young woman named Lena who goes to infiltrate a cult and ends up finding love. While that particular story might not seem all that different from a number of other films, Emma Watson is doing this with the backdrop of the 1973 Chilean coup led by Augusto Pinochet. When it comes to the cult, Emma Watson whispers to her lover, Daniel, “I joined up to find you,” in the clip. The coup comes into play because Emma Watson’s character and Daniel spend a few days together on the streets of Chile, and at least one scene takes place with Emma Watson’s character and her love, played by Daniel Bruhl, spending time at a street rally in support of Salvador Allende.

Pinochet’s troops eventually arrest Daniel, according to Entertainment Weekly, and take him to a prison that is supposedly inescapable. This prison is named Colonia Dignidad and, of course, that is where Emma Watson’s new project gets its title. The actress is clearly quite proud of this particular movie, considering she was willing to share the video on her own Facebook page. This particular role is certainly a long way away from playing a magical teen who has gone off to school in order to fight evil.

Some would say that Emma Watson is once again taking on a different kind of evil when it comes to Pinochet, but she’s not casting any magical spells this time around. The actress is starring in these kinds of films in order to make a new name for herself both as a serious performer and a director. Since the young woman has often talked about her early years feeling as though they were a bit of a fraud, it makes sense that she’s trying hard to redefine the way she’s seen on the big screen. In previous films, her romantic entanglements have been hinted at but never really shown in the light of day. In Colonia, Emma Watson takes a big step towards becoming a full-fledged romantic actress.
