‘Gravity Rush 2’ And ‘Gravity Rush Remastered’ Announced For PS4

Gravity Rush originally released for the PS Vita in 2012 and turned into one of the cult hits for Sony’s handheld. The company announced a PlayStation 4 remaster for the game during its Tokyo Game Show 2015 press conference on Tuesday along with a sequel planned for 2016.

Gravity Rush Remastered is headed to the PS4 on February 9, 2016. Originally developed by Sony’s Japan Studio, the translation from the small screen to the current-gen home console is being handled by BluePoint Games and will feature Kat and Dusty soaring through Hekseville through the original release plus the three DLC packs – the Spy Pack, The Maid Pack, and The Military Pack.

Bluepoint is upgrading Gravity Rush with 1080p graphics along with “ample graphical and performance improvements.” The new screenshots and trailer showcase the upgraded visuals with expected, but notably enhanced graphics that showcase the game’s art style.

Gravity Rush Remastered won’t be the end, however. Sony also confirmed Gravity Rush 2 is in development for the PS4 at Tokyo Game Show 2015 and will be one of the console’s 2016 exclusives. A narrower release window was not announced, but a release in the second half of the year is expected.

While details for Gravity Rush 2 are sparse, a trailer released for the game confirms that Japan Studio will return for the sequel and use the same cel-shaded art style. Kat and her gravity-defying abilities will return for free-roam exploration combined with combat against a wide assortment of enemies from demons to mechs.

The trailer and cover art released by Sony also provide a hint that co-op may be a possibility. Kat bumps into Raven at around the 1:17 mark of the trailer, and the two proceed to fight a large monster. Support for local or online co-op would be a nice step up for the series depending on how it is implemented.

For those wondering, no Gravity Rush 2 announcement was made for the PS Vita. While this further suggests that support for the handheld is slowly coming to a close, there were a few titles announced at the Tokyo Game Show. The announced titles are primarily for the Japanese market, but include Gundam Extreme Vs Force, Saga Scarlet Grace, Setsuna, 13 Sentinels, World of Final Fantasy, Toukiden 2, Exist-Archive: The other side of the Sky, Dragon Quest Heroes 2, and Danganronpa 3.
