Australians Let Tony Abbott Go And Welcome Malcolm Turnbull As Their Prime Minister [Breaking]

Australia has chosen to let Tony Abbott go in favor of Malcolm Turnbull. The latter will soon be appointed as the southern continent and country’s Prime Minister.

Tony Abbott has been replaced by Malcolm Turnbull, a former investment banker and lawyer. Turnbull is a multi-millionaire, and a former tech entrepreneur, who amassed his wealth on multiple business frontiers.

Incidentally, the ruling Liberal Party on Monday voted out Tony Abbott in favor of longtime rival Malcolm Turnbull, reported MSN. His victory came after a long-drawn power struggle within the party and a generally deprecating perception about Abbott. Turnbull won a secret party vote 54 to 44 and will soon be sworn-in as Australia’s Prime Minister, confirmed Liberal Party chief whip Scott Buchholz.

Malcolm Turnbull’s selection was swiftly followed by appointment of Foreign Minister Julie Bishop as deputy leader of the party. Quick to point out Tony Abbott’s setbacks during his time in the office, Turnbull said,

“It is clear enough that the government is not successful in providing the economic leadership that we need. It is not the fault of individual ministers. Ultimately, the prime minister has not been capable of providing the economic leadership our nation needs. He has not been capable of providing the economic confidence that business needs.

Australia must embrace the challenges it faces and seize the kind of opportunities that sometimes come from disruption. We need a different style of leadership. This has been a very important, sobering experience today. I am very humbled by it.

We need to have in this country, and we will have now, an economic vision, a leadership that explains the great challenges and opportunities that we face, describes the way in which we can handle those challenges, seizes those opportunities and does so in a manner that the Australian people understand so that we are seeking to persuade, rather than seeking to lecture. Australia must be agile and innovative. “

Tony Abbott had been steadily losing the support of members of the cabinet, as well as the junior lawmakers. He had strongly opposed his ouster, but ultimately failed to garner enough support to stay on as Prime Minister. Openly speaking about his disappointment, Abbott said he was dismayed at the attempt to destabilize his leadership from within his own party, reported the New York Times.

With Australia dealing with issues about the environment and military defense, Malcolm Turnbull has his work cut out for him. Whether he will accord Australia with the reforms it needs, which Tony Abbott allegedly failed to do, will have to be seen.
