‘PlayStation 4’ Continues To Outsell Competition, ‘Madden 16’ Tops Software Charts

If you’ve purchased a PlayStation 4 recently, you’ve helped continue the upward trend that Sony has been enjoying since the console launched in 2013. However, it’s not all gloom for competitors Microsoft or Nintendo, as they’ve seen growth recently, as well.

According to a report on IGN, PlayStation 4 was the best selling console in August. A statement from Sony confirmed the Japanese company had once again outsold their competition in the hardware race.

“We would like to thank our fans and partners for their ongoing support of PlayStation and for making PS4 the top selling console and No. 1 in software sales in North America in August.”

Sony has been riding high since it launched their current-generation console, and Microsoft specifically has been playing catch-up. The Xbox One didn’t sell more than its competition this month. However, they do have something to be happy about, as Microsoft announced their Xbox One has been selling more year over year, according to VentureBeat.

“Xbox One continued to gain momentum in August, with sales in the U.S. up 26 percent over August 2014,” Xbox marketing boss Mike Nichols said to VentureBeat.

While hardware sales have been decent for both of the major players, it’s important to note that PC hardware makers have been enjoying massive success in the past year as well, as a report by The Verge details. According to the report, PC hardware sales totaled $21.5 billion dollars last year, double that of the console market.

Software-wise, Madden 16 by EA Sports topped the charts last month, selling the best on the PlayStation 4. Here is the full NPD list for August 2015 below.
