‘Game Of Thrones:’ Essie Davis Plays Cersei Lannister In Season Six, Kind Of [Spoilers]

The internet has leaked Game of Thrones’ latest cast member — Essie Davis. She joins a variety of other newcomers for season 6, which starts in Spring 2016.

According to the Wrap, the actress gave a breakout performance in the Australian horror movie The Badabook. She played Amelia, a mother who fights both internal and external demons.

Her role on Game of Thrones will be a little bit different.

Davis will play an actress who will portray Cersei Lannister in a show depicting the story of Westeros as presented in the first five seasons (with a few notable differences).

Vanity Fair reports that Davis’ role will be that of a “leading actress,” which was described by the casting call as “in her early 40s, she’s an elegant actress with a traveling theatre company. Fun, charismatic, rum-drinking actress in the troupe.”

There are also pictures leaking from the set of Essie Davis in her Cersei Lannister costume.

Richard E. Grant will join Davis, portraying the actor who will portray Robert Baratheon, Cersei’s husband and the late king of Westeros.

The news of Essie Davis’ role first appeared on the Game of Thrones fan site Watchers on the Wall, which managed to leak the original photos from the set as well.

Game of Thrones season 6 will be the first to premiere before the latest book, meaning that those people caught up with the books will no longer have an advantage on the less-informed TV audience.

Nevertheless, the theater troupe’s play, The Bloody Hand, is described in a released chapter from George R.R. Martin’s upcoming The Winds of Winter.

The new casting information has come out just as new leaks prop up fan hopes that Jon Snow isn’t really dead, or at least, not dead permanently. Snow’s actor, Kit Harrington, was spotted in Ireland “participating” in a Game of Thrones shoot, according to Movie Web.

The exact nature of his participation isn’t clear, but many fans hope it’s not just for a flashback, despite producers’ claims that he’s gone for good.

Entertainment Weekly gave a list of the confirmed new cast members, which includes Max von Sydow (as the Three-Eyed Raven), Ian McShane, Richard E. Grant, Freddie Stroma (as Dickon Tarly), and Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy).

Game of Thrones’ new cast member Essie Davis also played Maggie, the medical officer who tends to Neo and Bane in the Matrix: Reloaded and the Matrix: Revolution.
