New York Fashion Week Continues To Wow: Three Things People Are Talking About

On Wednesday, September 9th, Fashion Week kicked off in New York City at Pier 26. Some of the biggest names in fashion can be seen at the event, and it will continue on until September 16. Designer Becca McCharen appeared on Friday evening at Fashion Week with a “futuristic fantasy and strength” take on fashion at Chromat‘s event that evening. Becca stated that “[t]he collection was inspired by how we can use sportswear to power the body and how we can make the body stronger through clothes,”

Alicia Quarles of 680 News explains that the Chromat line at Fashion Week is supported by a number of top-tier celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Madonna. The main colors of the Fashion Week collection are red, blue, and white, depicting American patriotism.

Also on Friday, Uwi twins Levi and Reuben, survivors of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, debuted their latest collection named “I Left My Heart In Africa” at Fashion Week. The crisp and minimalistic line was inspired by the spirit and colors of Africa, according to Mesfin Fekadu of CTV News. After the presentation, Levi said,

“It was a huge contrast from the last time we were there. We were very fortunate enough to be in a position where we had a lot of opportunities ahead of us and so, when we were designing the collection, we definitely felt very blessed and very humbled,”

Reuben Uwi added,

“This brand is about inspiring the underdog and with this collection, yeah it is inspired by Africa, but it’s also for anyone who feels like they’re down…Look at us — we’ve been down multiple times. You can get back up.”

Another, somewhat unfortunate event that also occurred on Friday at Fashion Week was that model Candice Swanepoel took a rather serious tumble on the runway. The Victoria’s Secret model remained very calm and professionally walked off the fall after being assisted by several security guards. The Fashion Week model stated that she was not at all physically injured, save for a few scrapes on her knees. She did, however, admit that her ego was certainly bruised. Candice immediately published a post on Instagram with the caption,

“Thank you to who ever picked me up off the runway tonight. Left with little scratches but mostly a bruised ego #ohwell”

Pooja Mor, another model, also tripped during the same Fashion Week show. Aside from all the trips and tumbles, Fashion Week in New York is still running smoothly and can be live streamed from its website.
