Chris Brown Awarded Joint Custody Of His Daughter Royalty

Chris Brown has been awarded joint custody of his 15-month-old daughter Royalty.

Nia Guzman and Chris began a lengthy custody battle after Nia requested Chris be denied his custodial rights and only be allowed to see Royalty during supervised visits, according to azcentral. However, a Houston judge shot down her request and suggested the custody be joint between both parents.

Along with sole custody, Nia also requested Chris’ child support payments be increased to $15,000 per month. However, the judge also denied that request, stating that he would continue to pay his $2,500 a month payments because they were considered adequate.

“Some men my age run from their responsibility as fathers. I embrace mine. Just sucks that some females use children as meal tickets,” Brown tweeted after Guzman filed her complaint with the courts. “Using a child as leverage is never ok. The highest praise to the men who actually want their kids.”

Nia lived in Texas when she filed the initial complaint against the singer. However, both Chris and Nia currently live in Los Angeles, which will make the shared custody of Royalty easier on both parents.

Guzman’s vendetta against her ex-boyfriend started in July when he filed for a paternity test to determine if he was really the father of Royalty, who he didn’t find out about until March, many months after her birth, according to Us Weekly.

“A lot has changed in my life, a lot of mistakes, a lot of lessons learned. The best thing, I’m most thankful for is my daughter,” Brown said of his little girl while at the 2015 BET Awards in June 2015. “At the end of the day, love is love.”

Based on his Instagram account, Brown is nothing but a doting father, who regularly posts pictures of him and his daughter, gushing over her and calling her the “best thing” in his life. He also refers to her as “Queen Royalty.” Chris also took Royalty along with him on portions of his tour this summer, and threw her a birthday party on Father’s Day.

“Happy Father’s Day to the real fathers. She changed my life,” Brown wrote on Instagram at the time. “#GLAD2BEHERDAD.”
