Seattle Mariners Rumors: Will Lloyd McClendon Return As Mariners Manager?

Seattle Mariners rumors about Lloyd McClendon have floated all season. Recent Mariners rumors still deal with whether he will return as the manager of the team or if a new general manager will fire him. A report from the Seattle Times claims that he deserves another shot to manage the team in the 2016 MLB season. Despite missing the playoffs again, the team might just need to give McClendon a last chance to prove what he can do on the bench.

This is McClendon’s second season with the Mariners, and the team has a combined 155-148 record with him in charge. That’s good for a.512 winning percentage, but the fourth place standing in the 2015 MLB season is not what fans wanted or expected. Before coming to Seattle, McClendon had spent time as a manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, posting a 336-446 record over parts of five seasons. That’s a winning percentage of just.430 over that span.

These Seattle Mariners rumors are significant because the team has only posted a 68-73 record this season. Many MLB analysts had predicted the Mariners would actually win the American League West, but nothing has gone according to plan in Seattle. First the team was struggling to score runs, but in a switch after that, the Mariners had been unable to keep opponents from scoring. Despite all the struggles, the team has now won seven of its last 10 games to make up a lot of ground.

While it is likely too late for the team to make a serious run at the 2015 MLB Playoffs, there is a lot that the players can do to build toward the future. A lot of young faces are getting at-bats and innings on the mound to prove that they belong on the roster next year. It’s tough to put that weight on a manager that is trying to keep his job, but that’s what Lloyd McClendon has to deal with. Meanwhile, the front office has been very quiet about what the future holds for the franchise.

There is a lot that the front office in Seattle has to deal with in the coming offseason, beginning with hiring a new general manager that may clean house. In most instances, a new GM would want to bring in his own guy to carry out a new plan. That could take place here, meaning Lloyd McClendon could be looking for a new job very soon. It appears the team is set on letting him finish out the 2015 MLB season, though, so these Seattle Mariners rumors may not really get addressed till the new GM is hired.
