Netflix’s ‘Jessica Jones’: Here’s What We Know So Far

Netflix started out its foray into the Marvel universe with Daredevil. It was an instant success with it’s comic book appeal and the darker take on violence. Now it is time for the next Marvel installment; Jessica Jones. Here’s everything we know so far:

Jessica Jones Synopsis and Cast List

“After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases in New York City.”

Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones)
David Tennant (Kilgrave),
Mike Colter (Luke Cage),
Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker),
Carrie-Anne Moss,
Eka Darville,
Erin Moriarty
Wil Traval

Jessica Jones is executive produced by Melissa Rosenberg, Liz Friedman and Jeph Loeb. Loeb has already had a turn with the Marvel universe, having been involved in both Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Daredevil. He is also Marvel’s Head of Television, so already the series is getting off to a great start.

According to the press release issued by Netflix, Jessica Jones “is a suspenseful, edgy look into the life of Jessica Jones, one of the most popular new Marvel characters of the last decade, as she faces demons from within and without. The drama will premiere with thirteen one-hour episodes.” This series is the second in four anticipated Marvel series created by Netflix. Marvel’s Luke Cage and Iron Fist will follow then lead up to the teaming of the main characters in The Defenders.

As a previous Inquisitr article pointed out, Jessica Jones is a relative newcomer to the Marvel universe, having only been on the scene for 14 years. Time also adds that Jessica Jones is “an orphan with superpowers” after a military convoy containing radioactive chemicals crashed into her family’s car. Jessica’s family was killed and she went in a coma. When she awoke, she discovered her powers, which include the ability to fly.

Another thing to be aware of — before you book this series in for your kids — is that Jessica Jones will be rated R. According to Time, Jessica first made her appearance in a mature-aged comic called Alias. This series included both swearing and sex scenes, something that Netflix will, undoubtedly, bring to the TV series when it debuts in November.
