Jimmy Fallon To Steve Harvey: ‘Jealous?’

Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show can be a lot of things — a talk-show, a TV sketch comedy show, a satirical newscast — and on certain rare occasions, Jimmy Fallon’s show can morph into other late night hit TV shows. Such was the case when Steve Harvey, the beloved TV host of Family Feud, arrived on The Tonight Show to host a miniature version of his hit family game show.

Those familiar with Family Feud would know that the game revolves around two families who compete in outguessing each other for the answers of predetermined questions. In this special case, however, the two families consisted of Jimmy Fallon, actress Alison Brie, and announcer Steve Higgins on the one hand, and Roots’ band members Questlove, Tarik, and James Poyser on the other.

To answer the first question, Steve Harvey invited Jimmy Fallon and Questlove onto the stage. Though Jimmy managed to press the buzzer first, it was The Roots’ who were eventually awarded the first strike. According to Entertainment Weekly, when Harvey asked Fallon for a nickname he might call his spouse, Fallon channeled another game show.

“What is ‘dear,’ Steve?”

At which point, apparently displeased with Jimmy’s answer, Steve Harvey replied in the following tongue-and-cheek manner.

“What the hell do you keep saying ‘what is’ for? This is Family Feud. Family Feud is the new No. 1 game show in the country today.”

Jimmy Fallon then went one step ahead and asked Steve if the word “jealous” was on board, which prompted a curt reply from Harvey.

“You ain’t the only one with a hit show.”

Ouch. Luckily it was all said in good fun, but it was quite a spectacle anyway. You can check out the segment below.

Taking the game by storm, the band members then swept through the possible answers of the first question, which put the onus entirely on Jimmy Fallon’s team member Alison Brie to get to the buzzer first when the next question was asked. Unfortunately, though, it was Tarik and his band members who answered the second question too, meaning Jimmy Fallon’s team lost the mini version of Family Feud.

As Cinema Blend noted in their report, Steve Harvey’s mini-segment on Jimmy Fallon’s show would have done Steve and his show a world of good.

The Tonight Show segment is some solid advertising for Harvey and the celebrity version of Family Feud. Not that the show needs it. Viral videos featuring NFL players like Vernon Davis and more have kept Celebrity Family Feud in the news. Plus, Family Feud has quietly become TV’s most popular game show, edging out both Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! in the ratings over the summer.”

But as much as Steve Harvey’s cameo on The Tonight Show might have helped him, it would also have pleased Jimmy Fallon to see one of the most beloved hosts on national television have a good time on The Tonight Show. Do you think Jimmy Fallon should continue to invite other popular TV show hosts on his show? Let us know in the comments below.
