Here Is Why ‘Maze Runner 3’ Will Be ‘Cooler’ Than The ‘Scorch Trials’

While fans haven’t recovered yet from Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, a major detail about the trilogy’s final installment has already dropped. According to the film’s director, Maze Runner: The Death Cure (aka Maze Runner 3) will not immediately pick up after the second film’s ending.

In an interview with Collider, Wes Ball explained that Maze Runner 3 wouldn’t be like its predecessor, which immediately picked up from where the first film ended.

“This next one will be cool because we’re gonna cut maybe a year later. Yeah, so it’ll be cool. Some thing have happened off screen, which is gonna make the movie feel even bigger.”

In the first film, Thomas and his fellow surviving Gladers found their way out of the Maze and ended up in a guarded facility. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials sees the group search for clues about the elusive organization named WCKD. They ended up in a place known as Scorch which, unfortunately, has another series of hurdles.

Wes also said that Maze Runner 3 would have a different look.

“We’re working on the third one right now, working to make it even better and even cooler, and doing the same thing we did on this last one where it’s a different movie. It’s gonna be a different kind of an engine, a different kind of genre almost and a different sort of color palette and terrain. It’s gonna be cool. It’s gonna be very, very cool I think.”

There is no confirmation yet, but the director wants to film in Vancouver. He further teased that Maze Runner 3 would be “a little gritty, a little film noir almost.”

Regardless of how successful the first movie was after generating $223 million worldwide, it would be unlikely for the third book in James Dashner’s series to be divided into two films.

Famed young adult novels appear to be following a trend, wherein the final book is split into two movies. It can be recalled that Harry Potter released The Deathly Hallows into two parts in 2010 and 2011. Lionsgate did the same thing for The Hunger Games as well as Summit Entertainment for Twilight and Divergent.

In another interview with Digital Spy, Wes talked about his view about splitting Maze Runner 3.

“I think three is the number; beginning, middle, end, that’s it. Four? I think there’s something off about four. For me, if I have any say in it, there’s three movies basically.”

Maze Runner 3 will commence its production in February 2016 and will be released a year after.
