Britney Spears To Be A Part Of Super Bowl Halftime Show?

Britney Spears wasn’t offered the Super Bowl halftime show, but the veteran vocalist may still be a part of it, according to a recent Hollywood Life report.

The article bases their claim on an unnamed NFL insider who suggested Spears — a 33-year-old singer with multiple hit songs — could be in the running for one of several guest spots for the most-watched musical performance of the year.

“The NFL would rather have multiple acts over one main act for the Super Bowl halftime show. They know they are running out of people to do it so they want to make this year a bigger deal with a host of different acts instead of one, especially since it’s the 50th Super Bowl… Nobody has confirmed though but the league wants it set by Thanksgiving.”

Spears is rumored to be among the additional performers being selected to help Bruno Mars perform at the upcoming football game. Mars — who last performed at the show in 2014 to the second-most watched halftime show ever — was offered the gig, potentially as a mash-up of big-time artists for the game’s 50th anniversary, the Los Angeles Times reported. News of Bruno receiving the invitation did not sit well with some loyal Britney Spears fans, according to a Celebrity Cafe article.

This wouldn’t be the first time Britney has performed mid-game during the NFL’s championship contest. In 2001, Spears was one of the featured acts at the event along with Aerosmith, Mary J. Blige, Nelly, and N’Sync. Britney sang “Walk This Way” with the other artists during the Super Bowl XXXV.

Britney Spears being included in the show would be a natural way to feature her upcoming ninth album. The compilation — which does not have an announced released date or title — was discussed by Britney at the recent Teen Choice Awards. “I have ballads and, of course, dance music — fun cheeky sexy stuff,” Spears said of the forthcoming recording.

Britney isn’t the only artist being rumored to join Mars at the 2016 performance. Taylor Swift, who just released her fifth single “Wildest Dreams” from the album 1989, was also mentioned as being a part of the big game’s halftime show. Taylor has recently made headlines with insiders suggesting she backs Nicki Minaj in her feud with Miley Cyrus.
