Ellen DeGeneres Questions Caitlyn Jenner’s Views On Gay Marriage

Ellen DeGeneres is questioning Caitlyn Jenner’s views on gay marriage. In a recent interview, Jenner told DeGeneres she is “on board” with same-sex couples getting married. However, she seemed to be somewhat uncomfortable with the word “marriage.”

Formerly known as Bruce Jenner, Caitlyn first made headlines during the 1976 Summer Olympics — when she won a gold medal in the decathlon event.

Thirty years later, Jenner was thrust back into the limelight with the debut of the Keeping up with the Kardashians reality series.

In a June 2015 interview with 20/20, Jenner revealed she was transgender and would henceforth identify as a woman. She also revealed she had changed her name from Bruce to Caitlyn.

Although public reactions were mixed, Caitlyn’s friends and family have stood by her decision and offered their unwavering support.

During a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres, which aired on Tuesday, Caitlyn Jenner admitted she is a conservative republican. As reported by E! Online, DeGeneres pointed out the fact that “a lot of republicans… would vote against all the issues that [Jenner] as a woman and… as a trans person would want to support.”

In response, Caitlyn explained her own personal struggle with the concept of gay marriage.

“I remember 15 years ago, 20 years ago whenever it was the whole gay marriage issue came up at first, I was not for it… I mean I thought am a traditionalist… I mean I like tradition and it’s always been between a man and a woman and I’m thinking I don’t quite get it.”

Caitlyn went on to explain that she eventually changed her opinion, as she does not “ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness.” However, she appeared to be uncomfortable using the word “marriage” to describe a same-sex union.

As reported by the New York Daily News, Ellen DeGeneres discussed Caitlyn Jenner and her concerns about the interview during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show.

She said she was specifically disturbed, as Jenner “still has judgment about gay marriage” despite her own struggles with acceptance as a transgendered person.

Although Jenner said she is enjoying her life as a woman and has no regrets, her decision remains a point of controversy. Much like gay marriage, transgendered people are often misunderstood or simply dismissed as unnatural.

Ellen DeGenerous said she has nothing against Caitlyn Jenner. However, she just does not understand how her views on gay marriage seem to contradict her experience as a transgendered person.
