Lana Del Rey Debuts New Song, ‘Music To Watch Boys To’ [Video]

The full version of Lana Del Rey’s new song, “Music to Watch Boys to,” from her third album, Honeymoon, premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show Wednesday, September 9. Ethereal, pretty, and dreamy are just a few of the sentiments being used to describe Lana’s new track.

Yesterday, Del Rey released a trailer for Honeymoon, giving fans a taste of what’s to come on her album. The tracks included in the sampler were “High by the Beach,” “Terrence Loves You,” “Freak,” and “Music to Watch Boys to.”

The Fader writes that the lyrics of “Music to Watch Boys to” are reminiscent of the lyrics on Lana Del Rey’s first album, Born to Die. The Fader goes on to report that Lana Del Rey told Zane Lowe on his show, “As soon as the first record was out, I kind of knew what I was in for. But it didn’t really change my writing process.”

Lana Del Rey also talked to Lowe about remaining true to herself after releasing three studio albums.

Back in January, Del Rey spoke to the Los Angeles Times about the new song she was working on, which was “Music to Watch Boys to,” and how she visualized it.

“I can see it and I can hear it. I’m working on a new record now, and I have this one song, ‘Music to Watch Boys to.’ The title lends itself to a visual of shadows of men passing by, this girl’s eyes, her face. I can definitely see things.”

Lana Del Rey collaborated with Rick Nowels on writing the song. Nowels was also a co-writer for “Summertime Sadness.”

According to Consequence of Sound, “Music to Watch Boys to” is reportedly one of Lana Del Rey’s favorite songs from her upcoming album, Honeymoon. “Music to Watch Boys to” was to be the lead single from Del Rey’s album. Lana herself chose the song to be the lead single; however, executives at Interscope Records decided they wanted “High By the Beach” to be the lead single from the Del Rey album instead.

The full Honeymoon tracklist from Lana Del Rey includes 14 tracks. Del Rey will close out her album with a cover of Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.”
