Arizona Interstate 10 Shootings: Nine Cars Damaged And One Girl Injured

Arizona Interstate 10 has become a shooting gallery. State police announced that nine different vehicles have been hit by gunshots or projectiles over the last 10 days. The shooting incidents all occurred on an eight-mile stretch of highway in the Phoenix area.

None of the Arizona Interstate 10 shootings have resulted in fatalities, Fox News reports. It is not yet known if the incidents were the result of a single person or group or if some of the highway shootings were the work of copycats.

“It’s just a matter of time, if this continues, that we have tragedy on our roadways,” Arizona Department of Public Safety Director Colonel Frank Milstead warned. “If you drive that stretch of roadway, be hyper-vigilant. Do not be distracted while you’re operating your car or truck.”

State police investigators cannot confirm that all of the Interstate 10 incidents were indeed the result of bullets fired from a gun and are therefore opting to use the term “projectiles” when describing what damaged the nine vehicles.

The first Arizona Interstate 10 shooting occurred on August 29, Arizona Central reports. Gunfire reportedly shattered the window of an SUV, and later the same day, a tour bus was damaged while traveling the same stretch of road. Later that evening, a third vehicle was damaged, but the driver did not notice that a projectile had hit the vehicle.

The first shooting took place on Aug. 29, when gunfire shattered the window of an SUV. A tour bus that was empty except for the driver was targeted later that day, A third vehicle was damaged late that night, but investigators said the driver did not spot the damage until the next day.

Other vehicles damaged by gunfire or projectiles along Interstate 10 in Arizona include a car driven by a Phoenix Police Department sergeant and a work truck. The police sergeant had his passenger’s side window shot out while on his way to work.

Drivers in the vehicles damaged by projectiles or bullets recall hearing loud noises, but most did not realize their car had been hit and damaged until later. A 13-year-old girl who sustained a cut to her ear by broken glass is the only Interstate 10 shootings injury reported so far.

A $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons behind the Arizona Interstate 10 shootings.
