Tarean Folston Tears MCL, Notre Dame Loses Star Running Back

Tarean Folston tore his MCL against Texas and now the Notre Dame running back has been lost for the season. A report from CBS Sports states that it was Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly that relayed the bad news. This is a very tough break for Folston and Notre Dame, as he was the leading rusher for the team during the 2014 college football season.

The injury took place on a first quarter run by Folston, who got hurt making a cut and ended up walking off the field on his own power. After tests were done on his leg, it was revealed that he had torn the MCL, bringing his season to an end after just one game.

Tarean Folston is a junior running back for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and it appeared like he could surpass 1,000 rushing yards this season. Last year, he had 889 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 175 carries, showing that Kelly was not afraid to give him a big workload. The season just won’t be going as planned now.

Some good news from the situation is that Folston will likely make a full recovery and he should be ready to go for the 2016 college football season. That would be his senior season at Notre Dame, and one in which he will certainly want to leave his mark on the school. It’s still a long road back from a torn MCL to being healthy again though.

As for where this leaves the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the school is now missing its top four rushers from the 2014 college football season. Greg Bryant was ruled academically ineligible, while Everett Golson and Cam McDaniel left the team in the spring. “Next man up” is the saying that will be going around, as Brian Kelly looks to a new guy to put up big numbers.

Senior running back C.J. Prosise is now in a position to take most of the carries and he has no problem doing that. He rushed for 98 yards on just 20 carries after taking over for Folston on Saturday and will be a big part of the game plan next week. He doesn’t have to worry about losing the spot either, because the next two guys behind him are still freshmen. Josh Adams and Dexter Williams should see more action on the field, but for now, C.J. Prosise is the main man to replace Tarean Folston.
