Happy Birthday, Roger Waters: Pink Floyd Bassist Turns 72

Happy birthday, Roger Waters!

Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters turns 72-years-old today, and the famous musician is still going strong and shows no signs of slowing down.

Happy fans of Pink Floyd and Waters will be excited to know the musician may be touring next year to support an upcoming album, but another Pink Floyd reunion with David Gilmour is probably unlikely to happen, according to Sunday Cinema.

Instead, the birthday boy probably plans to share the stage with a variety of other musicians as he’s done in recent years past.

Most recently, Roger headlined at the Newport Folk Festival with My Morning Jacket. Die-hard Waters fans were happy to hear a new song from him entitled “Crystal Clear Brooks.”

He once described his upcoming new solo album as a “quest.”

“It’s songs and theater as well. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s couched as a radio play. It has characters who speak to each other, and it’s a quest. It’s about an old man and a young child trying to figure out why they are killing the children.”

No doubt the bassist has other things on his mind as he celebrates another happy birthday. Roger Waters is preparing for the release of a new movie, Roger Waters The Wall. The movie will be shown in nine movie theaters across the U.K. starting on September 29.

The screening of the movie had the birthday boy hopeful that people would walk away from the movie with a special message.

“I hope these worldwide screenings will be a good opportunity to remember, not just our fallen loved one, but all the other guys’ fallen loved ones. Ashes and diamonds, foe and friend, we’re all equal in the end.”

Roger Waters The Wall is a film that unfolds on many levels: an immersive concert experience of the seminal 1979 Pink Floyd album, a road movie of Waters’ reckoning with the death of his father in Italy in 1944, and a stirring film that highlights the human cost of armed conflict,” reads a press release.

The movie is a great chance for fans to see the 2010-2013 tour of The Wall Live. Waters and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason will also answer questions from fans in the film and talk in an exclusive interview about the legendary band.

Waters is also getting ready for another performance in October with some other big names in music.

On October 16, he will headline the Music Heals benefit concert with Billy Corgan, Sheryl Crow, and Tom Morello, according to Rolling Stone.

With all that on his plate, it’s good to know Waters isn’t ready to retire from the music scene just yet.
