Apple iPhone 6S Gets An Upgrade Before Sept. 9 Launch

The Apple iPhone 6S is already getting an upgrade before it makes its launch on Wednesday, Sept. 9. As previously reported via the Inquisitr, it’s Apple’s largest iPhone to date, giving the iPad Mini some major competition.

It’s so big that it may cause owners to buy an entirely new protective case especially made for the iPhone 6S. The new model will be larger and thicker than Apple’s iPhone 6, according to several reports. It’s thicker because it’s made out of a 7000 series aluminum body that will help prevent the bending problem found with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus phones.

The iPhone 6S will also be slightly taller than Apple’s previous phones, which won’t be noticeable to users unless they want to use a protective case. MacRumors spilled the details of the phone’s rumored new dimensions.

“The new photos also reveal slight increases for the height and width of the iPhone 6s, with the device measuring 138.19 mm tall and 67.68 mm wide, compared to 138.1 mm and 67.0 mm for the corresponding measurements on the iPhone 6.”

“On a percentage basis, the thickness would see the biggest increase of nearly 3 percent, matching the iPhone 6 Plus thickness. That increase could be enough to prevent some tight-fitting iPhone 6 cases from fitting the 6s, but many cases should have enough wiggle room to accommodate the new models.”

The iPhone 6S has already upgraded its rumored new feature called Force Touch. The new iPhones will include the same feature as the Apple Watch and MacBook Pro, but they will only have the second generation version of Force Touch, according to a previous report via 9to5Mac. Apple will rename this feature “3D Touch Display,” and the difference from the Force Touch will be its ability to distinguish three distinct touches instead of two:

  1. A standard tap
  2. A press
  3. A strong press

The iPhone 6S will also upgrade its improved calling experience and video recording. A previous report noted by the AppleInsider claims that the new iPhone will have more microphones than the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus smartphones. This will help improve voice quality when it comes to phone calls and video recordings.

According to the iPhone 6S rumors, the new phones will also have an A9 processor, a Power VR Series 7 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera, and a rose gold color option.

Apple is also rumored to release the iPhone 6S Plus on Sept. 9. Both phones will be on sale within 10 days of Apple’s announcement event on Wednesday. Pre-order sales will start two days later on Friday.
