Lana Del Rey Rethinks Feminism With James Franco

Lana Del Rey had some interesting thoughts regarding the topic of feminism last year that got the Honeymoon singer in some hot water. Thankfully, new best bud James Franco has provided Lana with the chance to clarify her remarks.

According to Rolling Stone, Del Rey sat with James to discuss those comments and feminism in general in the upcoming issue of V Magazine.

“The luxury we have as a younger generation is being able to figure out where we want to go from here, which is why I’ve said things like, ‘I don’t focus on feminism, I focus on the future,'” she said.

And Lana didn’t stop there. She continued to portray herself as cognizant of the issue and how she understands why people might get upset.

“It’s not to say that there’s not more to do in that area. I’ve gotten to witness through history the evolution of so many movements and now I’m standing at the forefront of new technological movements.”

Lana Del Rey found herself in hot water after she commented on the topic of feminism during a 2014 interview with The Fader.

“For me, the issue of feminism is just not an interesting concept,” Lana started off when asked about her opinion on the matter. “I’m more interested in, you know, SpaceX and Tesla, what’s going to happen with our intergalactic possibilities. Whenever people bring up feminism, I’m like, god. I’m just not really that interested.”

That last line created a whirlwind of controversy for Lana. Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, for example, fired off on Del Rey for her ambivalence to the cause, as reported by the Inquisitr.

“Today we have someone like Lana Del Rey, who doesn’t even know what feminism is, who believes women can do whatever they want, which, in her world, tilts toward self-destruction, whether it’s sleeping with gross old men or getting gang raped by bikers. Equal pay and equal rights would be nice. Naturally, it’s just a persona. If she really truly believes it’s beautiful when young musicians go out on a hot flame of drugs and depression, why doesn’t she just off herself?”

This isn’t the first time James Franco and Lana Del Rey have connected in print. In January, Franco penned an essay for V Magazine praising the 30-year old singer.

“She isn’t of this Earth,” Franco said, causing many internet sites to believe the pair were actually dating. “She is made to live in the world she creates. She is one who has been so disappointed by life, she had to create her own world. Just let her live in it.”
