Emily Ratajkowski Wants To Move Beyond ‘Blurred Lines’ Fame, Take On Deeper Acting Roles

Emily Ratajkowski doesn’t want to be known as “the girl from the ‘Blurred Lines’ video” anymore.

The 24-year-old model, who rose to fame thanks to her racy appearance in the Robin Thicke music video, said the constant references to the video now have her regretting taking part at all.

“I wasn’t into the idea at all at first. I think I came off as a bit annoyed in the video,” she told InStyle UK, saying the video has now become “the bane of my existence.”

“When anyone comes up to me about ‘Blurred Lines,’ I’m like, ‘are we seriously talking about a video from three years ago?'”

Riding the fame from her “Blurred Lines” appearance, Emily Ratajkowski has staked out a real career as an actress. She had a role opposite Ben Affleck in Gone Girl, where like in the Robin Thicke video she also appeared nude.

Ratajkowski said she doesn’t see the big deal about appearing naked.

“It’s weird to me that the reaction to a woman’s naked body is so controversial in our culture,” Ratajkowski said, via Daily Mail. “My mom taught me to never apologize for my sexuality. My dad never made me feel embarrassed. I also don’t think I’ve ever had an awareness of my own body as being super-sexual. It was always just my body.”

Though she first gained fame for her appearance, Ratajkowski revealed that she’s not entirely happy with the way she looks. In fact she has one big complaint about her body — albeit a bit of an odd one.

“There are a few things I don’t like about my body, like that part of my thigh beneath my butt,” she said. “But my friends will say I’m crazy and I know it’s just my perception. You can’t beat up on yourself.”

But Ratajkowski doesn’t want to only be known for her looks, and said she hopes to land some more complicated roles, ones that can show off more of her depth.

“I’m not looking to play the pretty-girl type that you would expect from a model turned actress,” she said. “I want to surprise people. Maybe play the weird girl. It takes fighting for, which I’m prepared to do.”

Emily Ratajkowski may have a chance to do just that. She landed another role in the Zac Efron movie We Are Your Friends and had a recurring role in the television miniseries The Spoils Before Dying.
