11-Year-Old Shoots Intruder: Neighbors Tell A Very Different Story About Fatal Shooting [Breaking]

An 11-year-old allegedly shot and killed a 16-year-old intruder, but now neighbors in St. Louis County, Missouri, are telling a very different story.

News broke this week that the still-unnamed 11-year-old fatally shot a 16-year-old who police believed was attempting a home invasion. The Associated Press initially reported that the 16-year-old and another 22-year-old burglar, Stevieon Jackson, were trying to break into the family’s ranch-style home. The parents were not home, and the 11-year-old was watching a four-year-old sister.

After two tries, the pair were able to break through the front door, which is when the 11-year-old reportedly opened fire, shooting the younger intruder in the head. Police found the body of Lamonte Streeter in the family’s home.

But the story quickly changed. Neighbors said the 11-year-old did not shoot a home invader, but rather gunned down the 16-year-old after having a conversation.

“It was not a break-in,” neighbor Donna Jackson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “He shot him in the head.”

Another neighbor had a very different account that painted the 11-year-old as the aggressor. Jazmyne Clark, 18, said the two were talking on the front porch and it appeared the teen was selling the 11-year-old a cell phone. When Streeter reached the front door, the 11-year-old shot him, Clark said.

“He was never in the house,” Clark said. “He wasn’t breaking in at all. He was just trying to sell him his phone.”

Clark said he had also seen the 11-year-old waving a gun around earlier that day.

The family of Lamonte Streeter are now demanding answers. His mother, 32-year-old Lawanda Hamilton, said she wants to know why the 11-year-old was left home alone with access to a gun.

“I just want to know what happened,” she told the Post-Dispatch. “I want to know the truth. Why did it have to be my baby? I don’t understand why it had to be him.”

Streeter’s grandmother also said she believes that he wasn’t trying to break into the home, and questioned why neighbors didn’t call police when the first saw the 11-year-old brandishing the gun.

“This is supposed to be a community,” said Lisa Butler, adding that calling the police about an 11-year-old waving around a gun, “isn’t getting anyone in trouble, or snitching. That’s just to avoid something like what happened yesterday.”

The 11-year-old accused of shooting the intruder has not been charged. Police recommended burglary charges against Stevieon Jackson, but so far prosecutors have taken it under advisement without filing charges.
