Robert Pattinson Insulted When People Think He’s American — FKA Twigs Engagement Still On

Robert Pattinson has been called many things, but don’t call him an American, or he’ll get offended.

Gossip Cop reports that in an interview with Elle France, Robert Pattinson was asked to talk about the most insulting thing someone has ever said to him, and his answer had everything to do with his cultural identity.

“It’s going to make you laugh,” he said. “But as a Brit, to hear someone say I’m American is the worst insult! I am English! Let it be known once and for all!”

Given Pattinson’s noted discomfort with the tidal wave of celebrity that descended on him when he was cast in Twilight, it’s no surprise to hear him say that he prefers living in London than in Los Angeles.

“I live between Los Angeles and London. But being in London is a pure delight. They leave me alone,” he told the interviewer. “It’s the same everywhere in Europe. The other day I was strolling around Paris, and nobody bothered me!”

Pattinson blames the explosion of social media use that coincided with the release of the first Twilight movie. It led to a particular breed of Robert Pattinson Twilight fans

“What is terrible is that I became famous when the world changed. In 2008, everybody had a cell phone, it was the explosion of social media,” he says. “As a result, the freedom to protect [privacy] has become ultra thin. Not only were all these paparazzi camping outside my house but [there was] this new horde of fans who relayed information on social media. It became unmanageable. ”

The glare of the public eye led to some emotional struggles for Robert which he goes on to explain in the interview.

“At some point I became paranoid. I [didn’t go] out of my house in Los Angeles. It was hell,” he went on to say. “At the same time I was aware of the ridiculousness of the situation. It made no sense.”

Despite his discomfort with fame on the whole, Pattinson is still grateful for the success of Twilight which he still calls a “happy accident.” He also maintains that his fans will still support him even if he takes smaller film roles.

“I think my name on a poster rallies my fan base,” he said. “I hope to awake their curiosity and show them a different vision of cinema. Don’t forget that they grow up, too. And they don’t want to see all their lives Robert Pattinson playing a vampire. We tend to devalue the fans. It’s a mistake. The fan is an audience member like the others.”

The Elle France interview was done to promote his new film, Life.

Pattinson was asked Kristen Stewart, but he refused to discuss their past relationship. His decision is understandable, as both Stewart and Pattinson have obviously moved on. Pattinson is now in a highly publicized relationship with singer, FKA Twigs.

Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs are engaged, according to numerous reports, however, the two have postponed their wedding for now. People Magazine reports that work commitments are currently keeping the couple apart.

Pattinson is filming The Lost City of Z in Ireland while FKA Twigs (Tahliah Barnett) is focused on her career too.

“They’ve definitely drifted and have barely spoken while he’s in Belfast and she’s been in the States,” the source told People Magazine.

Interestingly enough, Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs weren’t together at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards as Twigs was seen there by herself.
