Dallas Cowboys Trade Rumors: Montee Ball Trade With Denver Broncos Close?

Dallas Cowboys trade rumors suggest the team wants Montee Ball now. These Cowboys trade rumors link the team to the Denver Broncos, with negotiations taking place on a deal that would add Ball to a group of new running backs in Dallas. A report from CBS Sports reveals that Ball has become expendable for the Broncos, and the team could part with him as a way get the roster closer to 53 players.

The Cowboys have been doing a lot of work to replace DeMarco Murray in the backfield, with three running backs looking to take on a lot of work during the 2015 NFL season. With Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden, and Lance Dunbar already on the active roster, it raises a lot of questions about this pursuit of Bell. It could point to the front office not being pleased with the options that the team now has to carry the ball. They are all a big step back from Murray, making the situation problematic for the team.

These Dallas Cowboys trade rumors don’t indicate what the team would be offering the Denver Broncos for Montee Ball, but it is expected to be a draft pick or two. The Broncos need to shrink the number of players in camp, so it would be highly unlikely that the franchise would take on anyone in this possible deal. Shedding the salary of Ball, while bringing on another draft pick would also be considered a huge “win” for the front office.

Ball was the starting running back for the Broncos in the 2014 NFL season, but he got hurt and was ineffective in his return. That led a lack of playing time as the season progressed. Ball would finish with 173 yards on 55 carries and one touchdown. In the 2013 NFL season, he played in all 16 games as a rookie for the Broncos. He rushed for 559 yards on an average of 4.7 yards per carry and also caught 20 passes for 145 additional yards.

At just 24-years-old, Montee Ball could still have a successful NFL career in front of him. It’s possible that Dallas feels he can return to the form he displayed in 2013, which in turn would add another weapon to the active roster. The question now becomes how much the Cowboys are willing to give up to acquire a fourth running back. These Dallas Cowboys trade rumors indicate that something could be close to becoming official, especially with the NFL rosters required to get down to 53 players soon.
